A few powerful words spoken at their church service over a year ago lingered in the minds of Joey Logano and his wife Brittany long after they first heard them. Despite initially looking around at the predominantly older congregation and dismissing the message, something had taken root in their hearts. Like many life-changing journeys, the Loganos’ path toward foster care began with small moments of clarity that gradually grew impossible to ignore.

For a family already balancing the demands of raising three young children with Joey’s professional commitments, the decision to pursue foster parenting represents more than adding to their family—it embodies a deeply personal mission connected to Brittany’s own family history and their foundation’s ongoing work to support children in need.

The Loganos are taking a bold step

“We haven’t shared honestly this with anybody,” Brittany recently revealed, opening up about a decision that has been forming in their hearts for some time. The connection to foster care runs deep for the Loganos, with Brittany explaining, “My mom was in foster care. We’ve met a lot of foster parents that have been amazing… we’ve kind of always had this like maybe we should adopt, maybe we should do foster care.”

The Logano family already has their hands full with three young children, as Brittany detailed on the ‘Believe in the Good’ podcast with Haley Dillon: “We have Hudson, he just turned seven. We have Jameson, he’s four, and then we have Amelia, her birthday is tomorrow, she’s going to be three.” With all this on their plate, how did they find an inclination toward foster care? Well, that stems from the Joey Logano Foundation.

Founded in 2013, the Joey Logano Foundation has long focused on foster care initiatives, working with organizations to support children in the system while giving the Loganos a front-row view of both the challenges and rewards of foster parenting. However, what began as foundation work gradually evolved into a personal calling, though not without hesitation. “It’s one of those things I feel like a lot of people say, ‘Oh well, maybe one day,’ you know, because things are hard. They travel, the kids are still young,” Brittany shared. The turning point came unexpectedly during church services. “We went to church one day and I remember them talking about adoption and it happened like two times. I was like, ‘Oh gosh,’ and I felt like it was just like this pull.”

During one particularly moving service, Brittany recalled, “We were in a room one of the times and there was probably 25 people and our church is a lot of older people, and there was a person that went up and talked about adoption and they were like, ‘There’s somebody in this room that is meant to adopt.’ I remember looking at Joey and we looked around the room and everyone was old.” The message felt directed specifically at them: “I feel like this is really like literally he’s talking to just us is how we both felt.”

Divine intervention? It certainly felt so for the Loganos. However, they weren’t willing to make the bold move just yet, as this incident happened over a year ago. But what stopped them from doing so? The weight of NASCAR’s rigorous schedule. The season spans 36 race weekends, which essentially take up three-quarters of the year, with one race even being hosted internationally this year, in Mexico City. Brittany explained the difficulties of travel season: “When we travel, the guys have to work and they have their thing, and so then it’s just you’re doing the same thing but you’re on the road and you kind of just see them at night when you go to bed. You’re still kind of by yourself… I just feel like this is not for us.”

However, the passion to be a foster parent was still in them, despite the logistical hiccups. They continued exploring, meeting with friends Nick and Amy Terry—“Nick actually married us and Amy is in that world of foster care and adoption”—to learn more. “We got more educated on it, we researched a lot, and we still said no,” Brittany confessed. Yet the calling persisted. “We just keep feeling pulled and we keep meeting people along the way,” she shared.

Another pivotal moment came during a foundation event with their partner organization, Least of These. “It was another one of those speeches about ‘They need foster parents and you need to help and you could be one of those people,'” Brittany recalled. She had heard enough, the signs were too telling, and this prompted decisive action: “I called the founder of Least of These, Susanna, and I was like, ‘Okay, just spill it to me. What do we need to do? We’re just going to start the process and see where that leads us because I think God is telling us just to take the first steps.'” And just like that, the Loganos took the step that they debated for over a year. When the universe is calling you, you have no choice but to answer, and that’s just what they did.

With that decision made, the Loganos began the licensing process during the recent off-season. “That was our goal—just to get our license,” Brittany explained. However, the process proved more demanding than anticipated. Brittany added, “It was a lot, and I think no matter what, I told Joey I think it was good for us just to do, working with the organizations, working with the foster parents, and just a newfound respect for everybody.”

Their journey reflects a growing awareness of the critical needs within the foster care system nationwide. Through their personal commitment, the Loganos demonstrate that true impact comes not just from foundation work but from personal involvement—putting faith into action despite legitimate concerns and obstacles.

We salute Joey and Brittany Logano on their wonderful journey and wish them all the best as they embark on making the world a better place for children in need.
