Ryan Blaney will find himself in unfamiliar territory next weekend. The driver from Team Penske defied all the odds to win in Martinsville on Sunday and punched his ticket to the championship race in Phoenix. It will be his maiden Cup Series final-four appearance and the 31-year-old will need all the help he can get. Thankfully, he has one of the most experienced drivers as his teammate, a man whose crown he is aiming to take away, Joey Logano.
Joey Logano is the 2022 Cup Series champion and a man who has appeared in 5 championship races. The 33-year-old motorsport athlete has won the Cup Series on two occasions, the first being in 2018. His knowledge and experience will be key for Ryan Blaney to win his first Cup Series title. To that end, Logano has a simple plan which could prove to be quite effective.

Joey Logano did make it into the playoffs this season but was eliminated in the round of 16. Out of all Team Penske drivers, he was the one fans believed had a chance of going the distance. No one saw Ryan Blaney coming in and stealing his thunder. But what’s done is done and the 2022 champion now has the job of guiding his teammate to the glory he is all too familiar with.
The driver of the #22 did a great job at Martinsville as he finished the race in P5. The track has been good to him this year as he finished P2 in the regular season race here. Speaking to the media after the race, Joey Logano said that he would help his teammate with his experience.
“I’ll just be a sounding board for him. That’s really all you can do. I’ve gone through it five or six times and there’s nothing like championship weekend. The pressure is on. It’s definitely different and feels different. It affects people in different ways, but he showed today that he lived up to the pressure and I wouldn’t expect anything less next week,” the 2022 Cup Series champion said.
Logano is right about one thing: Ryan Blaney did live up to the expectations and how! From a point in the season where no one believed in him to winning in Martinsville and securing a place in Phoenix, #12 has come a long way. The Team Penske star was an emotional man at the end of it all, and he did not shy from expressing himself in the post-race interview.

Ryan Blaney’s race-winning move came with just 23 laps remaining when he passed Chase Elliott. Since that moment, the Team Penske star sped away for the victory as the rest of the field struggled to keep up. The 29-year-old had come close to competing for the championship before but this is his first real opportunity. The fact that he did it at a track close to where he grew up made the victory that much more special.
“It’s awesome. I grew up in High Point, not too far from here, closer to High Point, closer to Martinsville than Charlotte, so really cool. I have been wanting to win here for a long time. Just been super close for many years and awesome to close one out,” Blaney said.
