Joey Logano has never been one to shy away from controversy. After winning the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series championship, he found himself at the center of a heated debate. Fans and experts questioned whether he truly deserved the title. His average finish of 17.1 was the worst ever for a Cup Series champion, and his path to the trophy relied heavily on NASCAR’s “win it and you’re in” playoff format.

Critics argued that more consistent drivers had been robbed of a fair shot. However, Logano dismissed these complaints outright. Speaking before the 2025 season, he made his stance clear. “If you can’t produce in the playoffs, well sorry, you didn’t do good enough,” he said. While he didn’t name anyone, he wanted to address all of his critics and doubters. But despite his defense, the criticism hasn’t gone away. However, there is one aspect of NASCAR where Logano is glad he doesn’t get any criticism, as it’s something he truly loves doing!

Booth of champions set to grace Homestead-Miami Speedway

As the NASCAR caravan moves to Homestead-Miami, it’s time for NASCAR’s annual driver-only broadcast. However, ahead of taking on the mics, the three-time Cup Series champion has revealed why being a driver is a much easier job than being in the broadcast booth. In a candid conversation on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Logano shed light on a surprising double standard that fans seem to enjoy.

Speaking about his upcoming role in the FOX Sports booth, Logano pointed out something interesting. He believes fans don’t hold drivers to the same high standards as traditional broadcasters. “Here’s the unfair advantage of being a driverIf you guys have a bad call on TV or the radio at the end of the race, you’re gonna get used up on social media. If we s—- up, it’s expected. And you’re like, ‘Oh yeah, they’re drivers, it’s not their job.’ And it’s okay. So, like, we could goof around, have a good time, and it’s what people want to see. They want to see us s— up, they want to see us stumble on our words,” said Logano, unable to contain his laughter.

It’s a rare moment of self-awareness from Logano, as he acknowledges that fans enjoy watching things go sideways. Ironically, this “unfair advantage” contrasts sharply with what he experiences in racing. Fans enjoy his unpolished moments in the booth, but they reacted with outrage when he won the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series championship despite his mediocre stats. This situation highlights the double standard—on TV, they find his mistakes entertaining, but on the track, they consider anything less than dominance undeserved.

Despite criticism on the track, Logano is embracing his new role in the booth. He’s confident that the upcoming ‘Drivers Only’ broadcast will be fun. “We are getting better, though. There’s no doubt—we’re getting pretty good at this. And we do it a lot, right? I’m up there a lot… I mean, it’d be fun. There’s no doubt it’s gonna be fun and a good time. It always is. So, I’m looking forward to it,” he said.

Logano won’t be alone in the booth for the “Drivers Only” broadcast at Homestead. He will join two other Cup Series champions—Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski. Harvick will handle play-by-play duties, while Logano and Keselowski will analyze the action. Meanwhile, Austin Cindric and Carson Hocevar will cover the pit road. Both young drivers have earned a reputation for their entertaining personalities, and fans expect them to bring energy to the broadcast.

NASCAR fans have grown to love the “Drivers Only” concept, and this marks the first time the event will take place during a Truck Series race rather than an Xfinity Series event. With so much talent in the booth, the broadcast promises to be exciting. Logano is looking forward to it, but he’s also sending a warning to his competitors in the Cup Series. While his TV role is temporary, his focus remains on the championship fight. And he believes Team Penske is far from done this season.

Joey Logano warns NASCAR garage!

Joey Logano and Team Penske have started the season very cold. However, isn’t that such a Penske thing to do? This is exactly what Joey Logano feels, as he reflected on the first five races, full of optimism. “I still feel strong about our team. It’s still the championship-winning team. I feel great about that,” he said in a recent interview.

So far, Penske has struggled to find victory lane. While Hendrick Motorsports (HMS) and Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) have already secured multiple wins, Penske has been unusually quiet. Logano sits eighth in the standings with zero top-10s, Ryan Blaney is seventh with just one top-five, and Austin Cindric is way back in 21st. On paper, it looks like they’re falling behind.

But Logano remains unfazed. He pointed out that Penske tends to peak at the right time. “We have done this long enough to know that racing sometimes is just like this. There’s been mistakes made early in the year… some things are out of our control. We are way better in points than we were last year,” he noted. His confidence comes from history.

Last season, Penske got their first win at a points-paying race with Austin Cindric in June at Gateway! This trend is telling. Team Penske is not the one to start on a blazing streak like JGR has done with Bell and like HMS did in 2024, winning 3 of the first 6 races but having just one driver (William Byron) in the Championship 4, while Penske had two, (Logano and Blaney)

Joey Logano himself only won one race before the playoffs but did just enough to advance through each round. In his mind, the system works in his favor. That’s why Logano isn’t panicking. He knows all it takes is one win to turn everything around. And if history repeats itself, Team Penske could be on its way to another deep playoff run. What do you think? Are Team Penske’s early season worries just part of the process? Let us know in the comments!
