Joey Logano Goes on a Ballistic Rant Against NASCAR’s Playoffs As He Reveals What Hurts Cup Drivers the Most

As the regular season races of the 2023 Cup Series are over and the round of 16 looks forward to unleashing its fury at Darlington, everyone in the playoffs is feeling the adrenaline pumping through their veins. Amongst the three top-tier series of NASCAR, the Cup Series is the most coveted one, and making it into the playoffs is a big deal in itself. However, making it to the Playoff has its own drawbacks.

The bigger deal is to advance throughout the 10 tormenting weeks of the post-season. The Cup teams are spending countless hours in the garage planning strategies to get into the highly sought-after Championship 4 race. In light of all this, Team Penske speedster Joey Logano revealed the much bigger factor that hurts the Cup Series drivers.

Joey Logano revealed the biggest anguish when it comes to the playoffs

Drivers, along with their teams, have put a lot on the line to make it this far. With the race at Daytona done and dusted, the fans know who they will see running at Darlington in the top 16. The next three rounds will eventually eliminate four drivers who don’t win and have the least number of points. So everyone is bound to bring out their A-games.

However, Joey Logano revealed the saddest part of the playoff rumble. Logano stated that it eventually comes down to one race and one better hope that they are good in that race.

“That’s what it comes down to eventually if you only get to the Championship 4,” he sighed. One wrong move, and you lose it all. This is the underlying statement for all 16 speedsters throughout the next few weeks. Joey Logano said, “Plenty of times… (we) sit and think about how close we were to winning… if just one thing went different…” But that is not the bitter truth.

The #22 Ford Mustang icon admitted, “…getting all the way to Championship 4 and not winning; there’s nothing that hurts more than that!”

Indeed, it is tough. After all, there can be just one title champion. Traveling constantly, being away from one’s family, putting one’s life on the line behind the wheel, and then going back home without the trophy must pain like nothing else.

With the usher of the next-gen race cars, having the fastest car does not matter entirely when it comes to winning a race. It comes down to strategy and individual mindset. Driving in Cup for over a decade and a half, NASCAR veteran Joey Logano understands the game better than most. He spoke to the MRN Live podcast and spilled his goal and his champion mindset.

Logano exclaimed that the ultimate goal was to win the championship. He said, “You know how to get through each round, what you gonna have to do, and to keep progressing through the weeks. I think for us we need to change we need you maybe change a little bit because we don’t have the playoff points and we don’t have quite the speed that we need at this moment.” But what is the strategy to do that?

The 33-year-old Connecticut native said, “We need to survive long enough throughout the first 6 weeks”

“I think if you gotta survive this first 6 weeks to get into that round of 8, and then you have to win,” he added.
