Did Joey Logano go too far, or was he justified in his actions after feeling robbed?

What happened at Richmond was a shocker for everyone involved and witnessing. Even fans got riled up when Austin Dillon decided to check Joey Logano in the rear during the last turn of the race. Of course, Logano got mad as he was just seconds away from victory, but it was all sabotaged by Dillon. So how did the Team Penske driver react?

Joey Logano was seriously annoyed at what happened and that was visible from his actions on the pit road and during the post-race interview. While lashing out on the mic is one thing, the pit road incident made many fans, teams, and officials unhappy. Logano decided to rev his engine as he passed the RCR garage while Austin Dillon’s wife and kids were there. This was seen as a dangerous move by everyone, despite no harm being caused. Ultimately the No. 22 driver had to pay a hefty fine of $50,000 for his stunt on pitrow and after clearing out the penalty, here is what Joey Logano had to say.

After the dust settled, Bob Pockrass met up with Joey Logano to talk about the $50,000 penalty. The Connecticut native paid off his dues and answered a few questions that gave us a glimpse of what was going on in his mind. Admitting to his mistake, Logano told Pockrass, “I mean, let’s face it, what I did was probably not right. I had complete control of my vehicle. I was never going to hit somebody. Yeah, it never crossed my mind that I should run somebody over with a vehicle. I don’t see red, and I think I’m going to hit somebody. I was just very frustrated at the moment.”

When Logano reached pit road, he was furious, as his race win was stolen from him by Dillon. As he explained, “I stopped, got aggravated, and someone put their hand in the car. I got the clutch. Like I said, I’m never going to put someone in trouble and hurt somebody with that, but I understand the optics of it. If you’re on the other end of it, they don’t know that I’m not going to hit somebody, so I understand that.”

Logano understood the ramifications of his actions, and he spoke about the fine that was imposed on him by saying, “The penalty? I wired 50 grand over to their bank of PNC and off the web, so I’m not a robot. I’m a human, and the best comparison I can think of to help people relate.” Logano used a hypothetical situation to explain how he felt, saying, “It’s kind of like your house got broken into, and they took all your stuff, right? And then, about a minute and a half later, you see them all dancing in your front yard with all your stuff. What would you do, right? It kind of put a little bit of it into perspective.”
