It’s hard not to like Chase Briscoe. Known as NASCAR’s “People’s Champion,” he’s built a reputation for his down-to-earth personality and knack for connecting with fans. Whether he’s pulling pranks, dropping dad jokes, or sharing heartfelt moments from his life as a father of three, Briscoe has always embraced his role as a fan favorite. It’s no surprise, then, that he recently turned to Reddit for a candid AMA (Ask Me Anything), giving his loyal followers a chance to ask him anything ahead of his debut with Joe Gibbs Racing in 2025.

A Reddit AMA for the books

Fans didn’t hold back, firing off questions that ranged from lighthearted to deeply insightful. True to form, Briscoe answered them all with honesty and a dash of humor. One fan asked, “Do you ever lose track of what lap you are on while driving?” Briscoe’s response: “Yeah, happens a lot.” Even the creme de la creme of NASCAR drivers, it seems, are only human.

Another fan wanted to know if Briscoe enjoyed fishing and what he fishes for. “Love bass fishing,” he said. “Done some offshore fishing too, but haven’t caught much.” It’s a modest admission that further bolsters his everyman charm.

Of course, no AMA would be complete without a quirky question or two. One fan asked about his favorite chicken nugget shape. Briscoe’s answer? “Lightning bolt.” That’s a fun detail that’s sure to stick with fans.

The hypotheticals were just as entertaining. When asked which track would be the most fun to race backward for an entire season, Briscoe didn’t hesitate: “I’ve always thought Watkins Glen would be insane backwards.”

Briscoe’s respect for his fellow drivers also came through. When asked about his favorite competitor to race against, he singled out Christopher Bell. “I really enjoy racing Bell because we grew up knowing each other and always are super clean,” he said. Briscoe and Bell will be teammates starting in the 2025 season, the two childhood friends re-uniting at Joe Gibbs Racing following the retirement of 2017 Cup series champion Martin Truex Jr.

The AMA also offered a glimpse into Briscoe’s sentimental side. One fan asked about his favorite Christmas present received and given. “My wife got me a helmet last year with my son’s handprints and everything on it,” he shared. As for his favorite gift to give? “Giving my dad an Indianapolis winning ring from Xfinity.”  Certified Awww moment right there.

On the technical side, fans were curious about the challenges of driving a modern Cup car. Briscoe highlighted the razor-thin margins that define the sport: “How tight the competition is. Like at Bristol, a tenth of a second in qualifying is the difference in 10th and 30th.”

One question struck a chord with fans, especially with all this chatter about waivers to miss event to compete in other series: is the Indy 500 on Briscoe’s bucket list? His answer was honest and heartfelt. “Yes, but truthfully, I know I’ll never run it now that I have three kids and am married. If I was single and had no kids though, I think I’d do the double.”

Big changes ahead for 2025

Briscoe is gearing up to join Joe Gibbs Racing in 2025. The move marks a significant shift for the Indiana native, who’s spent the last few years driving the No. 14 Ford for Stewart-Haas Racing. With SHR closing its doors at the end of 2024, Briscoe will replace Martin Truex Jr. in the No. 19 Toyota Camry. It’s a high-profile opportunity that has his fans buzzing with anticipation.

The transition to JGR also means a change in sponsors. Briscoe’s long-standing partnership with Mahindra is coming to an end, and he’ll now carry the backing of Bass Pro Shops, a brand already tied to the No. 19 team. Briscoe’s history with Mahindra includes his maiden Cup Series victory at Phoenix Raceway in 2022 and an expanded sponsorship deal that grew over three seasons. Despite the changes, Briscoe is optimistic about what lies ahead.

Toyota Racing Development president David Wilson echoed that optimism: “We are very excited to welcome Chase Briscoe to the Toyota family next season. Chase’s proven high character and racing acumen will fit perfectly amongst the talented drivers in the Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota camps. We believe in Chase and look forward to all of the on-track success he will achieve aboard a Toyota Camry XSE.”

For Briscoe, the move to JGR is about more than just a new car and new sponsors. It’s an opportunity to compete at the highest level with one of NASCAR’s premier teams. As he put it, “I definitely felt like from a culture standpoint, it was a great fit and felt like what I believe in, how I try to go about everything, it was a perfect fit.”

Briscoe’s fans are eager to see how he’ll perform in 2025, and the driver himself knows the stakes are high. “I have to win. Like, there’s no excuse not to win,” he said. “You have to make the playoffs. If you don’t make the playoffs, then there’s no reason I should be driving this race car.”
