“Not a big fan of racing on Easter, I’ll just say it, you know I, I feel like that’s a very special day, a day that’s equally as big as Christmas.” This was Joey Logano in 2022, expressing mixed feelings about the Cup Series racing on Easter for the first time since 1989, noting the strain it puts on fans and crew families who miss out on holiday time. This year, for the first time since 2021, the Cup Series took its traditional break, a nod to the holiday’s importance. However, the Xfinity Series was still up and running on Saturday as usual, and one Joe Gibbs Racing driver had a surprising encounter on Easter after the race at ‘The Rock.’

NASCAR made its return to Rockingham Speedway for the first time since 2004 in a weekend that promised to be a trip down memory lane. The Truck and Xfinity Series saw thrilling races as fans enjoyed their holiday weekend with the family. After a 13th-place finish at Rockingham, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Xfinity driver Brandon Jones continued the traditional Easter festivities on Sunday with a treasure hunt. However, what he discovered instead of the treasure stole the spotlight, and it was a slithery surprise to say the least!

Brandon Jones finds a scaly friend on Easter

Easter Sunday in NASCAR is always a mix of quiet reflection and high-octane anticipation. For some, it’s a rare day off to spend with family; for others, it’s a chance to make memories that go beyond the racetrack. While celebrating the holiday, Brandon Jones stumbled into an unexpected adventure and took to Instagram to share it with his fans.

Brandon Jones shared a photo of a snake he stumbled upon during an Easter Egg hunt and posted an Instagram story with the caption, “Quite the find during our Easter egg hunt.” Jones’s reptilian run-in wasn’t just a quirky moment, as it captured the unpredictable spirit of a day that blends calm with the unexpected. Well, some species of snakes are known for a liking toward consuming bird eggs, and what better time to go egg hunting than Easter if you’re a snake! However, this one didn’t look like the egg-eating type and instead brought Brandon Jones a story he’ll be telling for years. But he wasn’t the only driver to have such a wild encounter.

On a separate occasion in 2022, Chase Briscoe, a current JGR driver who was then driving for Stewart-Haas Racing, came face-to-face with a snake in the comfort of his home! He took to X to share a video of someone trying to scare away the snake with a rake, captioning the post, “Putting the house up for sale tomorrow.” Well, it seems like Brandon Jones and Chase Briscoe would have something to bond over if they ever stumbled across each other during a JGR event. For now, Easter celebrations take precedence, and putting Jones’ snake drama aside, the NASCAR community was in good spirits after a veteran’s heartwarming gesture.

Elsewhere, the NASCAR community leaned into the holiday’s deeper meaning. Greg Biffle, a former champion, made headlines by delivering Easter eggs via helicopter to kids in North Carolina still recovering from hurricane devastation. Biffle’s helicopter egg drop, which was a lifeline for kids in storm-ravaged areas, was a reminder of the sport’s commitment to giving back. “To see a helicopter bringing so much joy, compared to what it meant less than a year ago, is a promise of hope,” said a local volunteer.

As for the racing itself, the Easter break gave veteran drivers like Kyle Busch a chance to celebrate his birthday a little early this year! With the Cup Series’ only week off coming a couple of weeks before Kyle Busch’s 40th birthday (May 2nd), his wife Samantha Busch decided to celebrate #40 with him in romantic style. The couple posted photos celebrating Busch turning 40 before Easter weekend, as Rowdy is set to embark on a new chapter in life, entering his 40s as his son, Brexton Busch, hones his craft as a racer.

What’s your perspective on:

Should NASCAR keep racing on Easter, or is it time to honor the holiday with a break?

Have an interesting take?

Easter may have paused the engines for some, but it didn’t stop the stories. From Brandon Jones’ scaly encounter to acts of kindness across the sport, NASCAR proved once again that it’s more than just racing—it’s a community that finds magic in the moments that matter most.
