Emmy award-nominated Frankie Muniz, best known for his starring role in the turn-of-the-millennium hit “Malcolm in the Middle,” once had audiences in stitches. Fast forward to today, and no one’s laughing at his foray into the ARCA Menards Series.

After a series of curveballs on the racetrack, the tide of support seems to have turned, with many in the stands wearing their hearts on their sleeves for the beleaguered RJR driver. Instead of cheers, there’s a wave of sympathy for the underdog, especially when stacked against the roaring success of the Toyota Camry, steered by the Joe Gibbs Racing team.

JGR’s driver behind the wheel of his trusty Camry clinched his inaugural ARCA Menards Series East championship under the dazzling lights of Bristol Motor Speedway. The crowning moment marked a hat trick for Toyota, sealing the ARCA Menards Series East title three times on the trot.

This season, the young gun, only 16, has been on a tear in the ARCA Menards Series, consistently putting the pedal to the metal. Out of the eight sprints in the ARCA East showdown, William Sawalich has burned rubber, landing in the top five in the last four of eight. With a tally boasting three victories, 10 top-five spots, a half dozen pole positions, and revving it up in 11 national ARCA starts, the Toyota protege’s future is brighter than ever.

However, while the Joe Gibbs driver might be on cloud nine, the same can’t be said for Frankie Muniz, who’s hit a rough patch. For the past few races, he’s been down and out, struggling to even crack the top 10. At Bristol, to add insult to injury, through no fault of his own, Muniz unintentionally got involved in a wreck with #55, bringing a premature curtain down on both their drivers.

When the chips were down for Rette Jones Racing, fans didn’t dance on their misfortune. In an unexpected turn of events, they showed a different side.
