NASCAR’s 2023 caravan has reached the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. IMS is all set to host its fourth consecutive road course race on Sunday. With each passing year, familiarity with the somewhat new track in terms of knowing the breaking points, the best place to make overtakes, etc has become significant.

However, for a first-timer, driving on this track can be a bit tricky. Nevertheless, Joe Gibbs Racing’s star driver did a formidable job at literally drawing the track in a challenge.

The road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is relatively new to racing drivers. Racing can only be as good as remembering the course well. As a part of a challenge, the Xfinity championship leader John Hunter Nemechek was presented with a memory test. The challenge involved him drawing the layout of the whole IMS Road course from his memory.

Now, knowing that IMS will be Nemechek’s debut performance on a road course, the young JGR driver did almost a pretty incredible job of remembering the whole track, with the exception of missing only a single turn in the middle of the track.

After figuring out that he missed one turn, he said, “I think that’s decent for never being there.”

Nemechek has been performing formidably for JGR this season. The 26-year-old is leading the championship and has a great chance of getting the regular season championship in his bag. However, it will be interesting to see how he runs in the last three races of the season.

There are two main contenders for the Xfinity Series regular-season championship, John Hunter Nemechek and Austin Hill. Both drivers are currently on equal points (811 points). However, Nemechek leads the table due to more wins.

As the NASCAR community is coming to the end of the regular season, fans may expect things to get heated between the two drivers. Both of them would love to get the regular season championship before reaching the playoffs.

Both Nemechek and Hill are previous Truck Series regular-season championship winners. It would mean the world to them to grab the regular season championship in the Xfinity Series as well. After all, this could also be a chance for them to show their skills to get a Cup Series seat for next year.
