In the high-stakes world of NASCAR, securing top drivers is crucial to a team’s success. And it is equally important for talented drivers to find a seat in a team that can back them up to win every race. In light of this, with the 2023 season almost over, fans anxiously await updates on Denny Hamlin’s contract situation with Joe Gibbs Racing. The JGR and Hamlin partnership has been mutually beneficial, with the veteran driver delivering consistent performances and contributing to the team’s success.

However, the recent memories of Kyle Busch’s departure from JGR after M&M’s sponsorship exit have understandably left some fans feeling wary.

A recent tweet by Fox Sports reporter Bob Pockrass captures the essence of Hamlin’s confidence, highlighting the stark contrast in reactions from fans. While most remain skeptical due to the past, fans can only sit back and remain hopeful. The NASCAR community can only hope that this time around, JGR’s management will make the right call and keep Hamlin in the driver’s seat of the iconic #11 car.

Pockrass wrote on Twitter, “Joe [Gibbs] on not having announced an extension yet for Denny Hamlin: “We’re working on everything at our place but we know Denny is going to be here.””

“Seems like the same story as last year!!,” one fan wrote.

Another fan added, “Joe Gibbs pulled out his notes from running off Kyle. Every time Kyle wins with #ChevyPower I laugh at Joe. 😂”

“That sounds familiar…” someone added.

“I’ve heard that one before. Maybe because Hamlin has Fed Ex still he will be ok. Nice to have your own team as backup, unlike Kyle Busch last year.” one fan still remains hopeful.

“Gee, heard that last summer, too, from a now-former driver!”

“Heard same from Gibbs mouth several times. He said Matt Kenseth had a ride until he was ready to retire….we all know what Gibbs did after those words out of his lying mouth. Then again Gibbs handled Busch about the same. Who knows maybe he wants to keep a never champion.”

The departure of Kyle Busch was a bitter pill to swallow for NASCAR enthusiasts who had grown attached to the fiery racer’s antics and talents on the track. But every story is unique, and it seems that Hamlin’s situation might be different. Having been an integral part of JGR since 2005, Denny Hamlin’s track record speaks for itself. With an impressive 50 wins, 329 top-10 finishes, and 39 poles over his illustrious 18-year Cup career at JGR, it’s no wonder why the team is keen to retain his talents for the upcoming season.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his contract status, the 42-year-old veteran is unfazed.

The reported progress in sponsorship negotiations is fueling the optimism surrounding Hamlin’s extension. Sports Business Journal’s Adam Stern revealed that premier shipping company FedEx is on the cusp of signing a contract extension with JGR. With FedEx being a longtime team supporter, the proposed extension will probably involve continuing their sponsorship of Hamlin’s #11 JGR Toyota.

Hamlin has previously revealed his desire to finish his racing career at Joe Gibbs Racing, expressing optimism that his wish would come true. “I’ve always wanted to finish my career at (Joe Gibbs Racing), and I’m optimistic that will happen.”

“There will be a time where my attention will be more needed as a team owner than a driver, but it’s going to be on my terms and when I want it to happen and when I think it needs to happen.”
