Denny Hamlin is the man of the hour now, basking in his glorious Bristol run, registering his fourth win at the ‘Last Great Colosseum’ in Sunday’s 500-lap race. While Hamlin’s on-track shenanigans caught the eyes of audiences, recently an Instagram Reel gave fans a peak into the driver’s off-track relationship with his team and especially owner Joe Gibbs. In the video, the JGR boss was seen taking a cheeky dig at Hamlin during a team address post the Bristol showdown.
Joe Gibbs witty self comes to the forefront
Joe Gibbs Racing was on top of their game with everything from pit crews to strategies during the Food City Dirt Race, and much like last week’s race in Phoenix, it was more of a Toyota show. Following Hamlin’s win, his very first of the season, his boss Gibbs addressed the men and women behind the joint effort where he took a sarcastic jibe at the driver who was wearing ripped jeans. The team owner hilariously suipped, “He’s at 52 banners up on the wall, and you would think after all these years the man could afford a pair of pants but I’ll let him go ahead and finish it.”

Just as the words left Joe Gibbs’ mouth, the camera panned to Denny Hamlin who was equally dumb-founded by the cheeky dig, The driver, who was seen sporting a fluorescent orange T-shirt and a ripped jeans, smirked at his team owner’s words. This just goes on to show the camaraderie between Hamlin and his long-time team, Joe Gibbs Racing. Perhaps that would explain the on-track chemistry Hamlin has with his crew chief Chris Gabehart. The duo is surely turning out to be a formidable pair, wouldn’t you agree?
The significant chemistry between Hamlin and his crew chief pays in dividends
Hamlin and his current crew chief, Chris Gabehart, have been together since 2019 and the duo has perfected their craft and chemistry. Despite last season’s misfortune, the #11 JGR team did not let it get the best of them and strived for a win until they earned it in the pre-season opener at Coliseum this year. The team upped their game even further when they repeated that in Bristol. Reflecting on the performance, Hamlin gave props to his crew chief and team, saying, “He did a great job of just updating me with every pit stop what was going on with the tires..[..]..It allowed me to do my job at a high level when you have that kind of information. Certainly, he just kept making the car better, as well. It’s not all driver. You have to have a car that is easy on the tires, as well. They just did a great job building me that today.”
With the solid backing of such a talented team and crew chief, Hamlin sure looks poised for something special this year. A championship win, maybe?
