Without a doubt, the Daytona race on Saturday was expected to be an explosive affair. With 17 drivers fighting for a place in the single spot remaining for the playoffs, the stakes were high. One of the 17 drivers included Joe Gibbs’ grandson, Ty Gibbs. While his intention was clear, his approach instigated a devastating wreck, including Ryan Blaney. In fact, the Team Penske driver was lucky to not end up like Dale Earnhardt Sr.

It has been 22 years now since the NASCAR world lost The Intimidator. While the sport lost a gem of a racer, it is always hoped that no driver ends up receiving a similar fate.

The NASCAR Cup Series saw a thrilling finish to the regular season’s final race at Daytona. While it was expected to be an intense race, the drivers didn’t disappoint. Martin Truex Jr. once again took the stage and eventually ended up as the regular-season winner.

On the other hand, the playoff battle was as intense as it could get. However, things took a drastic turn at the end of Stage 2. Joe Gibbs’ grandson, Ty Gibbs, was in good form coming into the race at Daytona. While only a win could have helped his playoff cause, he certainly didn’t lack any motivation.

Having said that, his ambition for a playoff berth got the better of him. Gibbs went spinning off the bumper of Christopher Bell in Turns 3 and 4, hitting the right rear of Ryan Blaney’s car in the process. The Team Penske driver crashed head-on into the wall at a deadly angle, and almost 16 cars were caught up in the wreck.

Unsurprisingly, NASCAR issued a red flag. Given how Dale Earnhardt Sr’s crash at Daytona remains fresh in the minds of fans, many were naturally worried about Blaney thinking on similar lines. However, seeing Blaney climb out of his car brought solace to everyone around.

The 29-year-old was lucky as he survived any major injury possible from the crash.

While the wreck ended Ty Gibbs’s race too, it also knocked him out of the playoffs. Naturally, he was quite frustrated, given how he expressed it on the radio.

There is no question that Ty Gibbs got out of shape after receiving a push from Christopher Bell before the massive wreck took place. It was an unfortunate chain of events that saw multiple drivers involved in the crash and, more importantly, Ryan Blaney taking the biggest hit among all of them.

Having said that, the incident certainly ended Gibbs’ playoff hopes. Naturally, he was angered by this fact and vented his disappointment on the radio. Ty was heard saying, “Yeah, f**k these cars, they f**king s**k! Ow, Ow! Mother F**ker! I’m allowed to be mad if it hurts this bad!”
