Did Ty Gibbs choke under pressure, or was Bubba Wallace just too good at Daytona?

As promising a driver as Ty Gibbs is, his 2024 performance is nothing short of a spectacle. With just his second year competing in the NASCAR Cup Series, this young driver has managed to secure his playoff position with a lot of cushions. With two races still remaining before the post-season, Ty Gibbs hopes to further improve his position to get better NASCAR playoff points as a result.

The Charlotte driver has barely turned an adult and already has a Rookie of the Year under his belt from NASCAR’s top series participation last year. He marginally missed out on the playoffs in his rookie season, but he ensured to learned from his mistakes and came back stronger with experience.

Tyler Randal Gibbs began his Xfinity career in 2021 and ended up winning his very first race at the very start of his part-time season. He went on to win 3 more races that year in Xfinity and clinched the ARCA Menards championship with it. Gibbs also took home the Xfinity championship in his sophomore season the following year. His skill and maturity reflect very well on his grandfather’s legacy. There is still a lot to learn, the young driver believes.

Ty Gibbs struggled with Bubba Wallace over a tricky playoff spot in 2023. However, he has been on fire this year. Although he has not managed to get a victory lane in the Cup Series so far, he has accumulated enough points to be in the tenth rank. In his words at a live press conference,I learnt that it’s definitely nice to be locked in before Daytona, that’s for sure. I still have a lot to learn now and I’m sure for the rest of my career. But the experience was the most important.”

He credits his entire team for helping him get to this level, and he’s having fun while striving to succeed. “I think my team’s been doing as well. My crew chief has had some years in Cup Series. So, we’re all learning and mostly, I’m learning, and enjoying it,” says Gibbs.
