The foremost race of the playoffs on the track at Darlington lived up to the hype. The top 16 drivers of the playoffs, along with their fellow drivers contending for the owner’s championship, had donned their best performance on the track. However, it was Denny Hamlin of Joe Gibbs Racing who delivered a dominating performance in the first two stages. He led numerous laps only to pick up wins at both stages. Nevertheless, the woes for his teammate and the grandson of his team boss, Ty Gibbs, continued for another week.

The final race of the regular season proved to be detrimental for the rookie driver, as he entangled himself in a harrowing crash. That eventually pushed him out of playoff contention. Nevertheless, the incidents from Daytona were evidently carried forward in Darlington, as another incident marred the day of another Team Penske driver.

Joe Gibbs’ grandson embroils himself in another controversy

The track at Daytona has undoubtedly been one of the most hostile tracks for NASCAR drivers. Marked with numerous harrowing incidents, the 2023 regular season finale was no exception, especially for both Ryans. The first victim in Daytona was Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney. The Ford driver collided head-on with the safety barriers, which had the potential to become fatal.

The incident occurred at Lap 94 in Turn 4 after Joe Gibbs’ grandson, Ty Gibbs, shoved Blaney after making contact with the right rear of Blaney’s car. It was one of the big ones of the evening that riled up the majority of the crowd. Nevertheless, after exiting the car, Blaney was visibly fuming over Gibbs’s actions.

Drawing from the incident, Gibbs’ antics continued for another weekend, and another Team Penske driver fell victim to him. This time, it was Austin Cindric. The wreck occurred at Turn 2 on Lap 6 of Stage 2. Both drivers were engaged in side-by-side racing; however, Gibbs made contact with Cindric and shoved him to the outside wall. As a result, Cindric sustained huge damage to his car.

However, it was Gibbs who was heard saying on his radio, “Ugh, what an idiot.

The incident had left NASCAR fans livid about Ty Gibbs’s conduct for two consecutive weeks. They were disappointed in his on-track conduct and blasted the young driver for the incident.

Fans wrote on Twitter, Park Ty Gibbs. And pull that silver spoon out his teenage ass. F*cking tool.

“Imagine Ty Gibbs of all people calls someone an idiot.”

Others also wrote, “two weeks in a row somebody gets “Earnhardt-ed” by Ty Gibbs.”

The incident surely left another Team Penske driver fuming at Ty Gibbs for ruining a good day. It is to be seen how team boss Joe Gibbs reacts to the incident involving his grandson.
