When M&Ms announced that it will leave NASCAR at the end of 2022, Kyle Busch knew that his future was in doubt. At the age of 37, he is no spring chicken and is now a father of two children. However, when questioned about his contract situation, the 2-time Cup Series champion was surprisingly nonchalant and dismissive.

With time running out, people are beginning to wonder if Joe Gibbs Racing is preparing to move on from Busch. For some reason, a few people assumed that Gibbs’ grandson Ty Gibbs would earn a promotion.

However, team owner Joe Gibbs has insisted that is not on the cards in the immediate future. According to him, the plan is for the 19-year-old to stay in the lower-level Xfinity Series for another season.

What did Joe Gibbs say about the Kyle Busch and Ty Gibbs situation?

He said, “We want to be real careful, take our time, and so really our goal was to keep him in Xfinity for two years, and so this is his first year really. I think he’s had 23 or 24 Xfinity races, so the game plan is two years for sure in Xfinity. Make sure we don’t rush him.”

For now, the teenager is competing in the Xfinity Series on a full-time basis, driving the JGR #54 car. Last year, he drove the #54 car, but only on a part-time basis, and he was truly impressive. In fact, he romped to four wins in the 2021 Xfinity Series season out of 18 races. This year, the youngster has notched up three wins in 12 races, but his popularity has taken a hit. This was after his controversial brawl with Sam Mayer, after the two of them tangled at Martinsville.

Apparently, Mayer looked like a strong favorite to win, but Gibbs punted him out, and that prompted the face-off afterwards. Having said this, Joe Gibbs Racing must have realized that Ty still needs a bit of maturing to do. So they evidently feel that a couple more years in the Xfinity Series will help him gain experience and help him mellow out.
