Over the past few weeks, the major buzz in NASCAR is the news of Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan setting up a new team with Bubba Wallace as the driver. Now, it seems that the new team is looking to partner with the Joe Gibbs Racing team. Recently, founder and namesake, Joe Gibbs spoke to CBS about the new team on the block.
He said, “So I think this is a big part of our sport. I think for them to come into the sport, for he and Denny to team up, and to have Bubba. I think that’s going to bring some real excitement the next year. We will probably be a part of that. We’re still working through things but I think they’ll wind up being in Toyota. Toyota of course is our OEM so we’re excited about that whole deal.”
What else did he say about the alliance and about Bubba Wallace?

He insisted that the deal itself is hugely beneficial for them and NASCAR. The 79-year old was thrilled that NASCAR managed to catch the eye of a sporting icon of Michael Jordan’s caliber. The former Chicago Bulls star practically commands respect for all that he has done.

The best part is that Jordan grew up in and around racing and had a vested interest in it. The African-American was often spotted at the racetrack and shared an excellent relationship with Denny Hamlin.
In fact, the idea for the new team sparked in a casual conversation on a golf course. They also recruited a driver like Bubba Wallace, who is capable of winning races. Speaking of Wallace, Gibbs suggested that Bubba will end up driving a Toyota, so they are almost certain of a Toyota deal.

The Joe Gibbs Racing founder concluded, “I think it will also bring a lot of new fans to our sport. As I mentioned, everybody has got a device and our sport has made a huge effort from a digital and social media standpoint. We’ve got five people here working in the social-digital area for us on our race team right now.”
For the moment, all the respective parties have to focus on closing out the 2020 season. Once the playoffs wrap up and a champion is crowned, then all talk of the 2021 season can resume once again.
