Sunday’s Indianapolis race saw multiple on-track tensions. Indeed, all those vying for a coveted playoff berth, including Chase Elliott and the scion of the Joe Gibbs lineage, who currently occupy the 19th and 18th stances, respectively, felt the weight.

The grandeur was overshadowed by the thrust of the Joe Gibbs driver, firmly under the scrutinizing gaze of both the press and the public. His demeanor towards a nascent NASCAR Cup entrant, marking merely his sophomore appearance in the series, has raised more than a few esteemed eyebrows.

Kyle Larson & HMS Are Planning to Return to Indy 500 Next Year. But Should They?

Yes! It Is Great for NASCAR

No, It Was a Disaster This Time

The unfolding drama was instigated during the sixth lap when, at turn 1, the #54 found himself sent into a spin by Shane Van Gisbergen, plummeting from the 8th position. This seemingly untoward action appears to have ruffled the young racer, who subsequently exhibited an unmistakable sign while the #91 trailed closely in his wake.

In a subsequent post-race tête-à-tête, the Kiwi driver, Shane Van Gisbergen, confirmed the incident. He recalled Ty Gibbs signaling to him during the cool-down lap, which he initially misinterpreted as a congenial gesture only to later discern its true intent.

Although the visual evidence circulating lacks pristine clarity, particularly owing to the obfuscating gloves, it seems apparent that young Gibbs harbored some animosity towards SVG for the earlier indiscretion during lap 6. As events unfold, the driver steering the No. 54 Toyota Camry finds himself in the eye of a tempest, with NASCAR aficionados reproaching him for his inability to let bygones be bygones and casting aspersions on his character.

Enthusiasts of the sport are no strangers to the high-octane pressure and tensions that erupt, particularly when coveted positions are on the line. However, they were quick to voice their discontent with the manner in which young Gibbs responded to SVG’s actions on the asphalt.

A portion of the audience branded him duplicitous, highlighting perceived instances where he might have meted out similar treatment yet exhibited an inability to reciprocate in kind. Others, in a more blunt critique, labeled him nothing less than a ‘baby brat.’

Here are select comments gleaned from a video:

“Kid can wreck his teammate out of a playoff berth, but can’t handle when anyone else roughs him up. Just like at Michigan, the kid needs to grow up”

“I bet his grandpa is so proud of the baby brat he has raised! He probably gets rewarded every time he throws one of his tantrums. I bet Ty was the kid growing up that couldn’t have his Mac and cheese touching his chicken tenders.”

“hypocrite spoiled child

“Lol you can’t be serious that Gibbs looks like a 10 year old child, let him come up on svg getting unloaded at t1 be least of his troubles haha. Gibbs is a whimp”
