Not every day do NASCAR fans hear the name JJ Yeley being chanted on the tracks. However, that does not undermine the driver’s capabilities in the elite NASCAR series. Once spelled under the same breath as Tony Stewart, Yeley has been a one-of-a-kind racer but failed to carve a niche. The driver has stated his wishes not to return to the Cup Series with Rick Ware Racing for the 2024 season.

Amidst the whirlwind of changes and ascension in position, JJ Yeley is ready to sigh a breath of relief to step away from the overzealous competitive zone of the Cup Series. Taking a step back, the driver announced his intent to compete in the Xfinity Series. However, his departure from Rick Ware Racing has left the NASCAR community speculating where the driver will ink his new deal for the upcoming season.

Contemporary NASCAR fans are assuredly not familiar with the name JJ Yeley. For others, he is a driver past his prime, but this does not justify the resume of one of the most accomplished drivers. Yeley’s achievements in the world of USAC open-wheel racing still hold. However, the same can’t be asserted for his Cup Series career. Although he seized a seat at Joe Gibbs Racing after the departure of Bobby Labonte, Yeley never replicated the same success.

The same can be asserted for his stint with Rick Ware Racing. The driver is ready to take a leap of faith and strap himself into an Xfinity Series car. In an interview with Frontstretch, the driver divulged his plans for the 2024 season, stating, “I’ll be going Xfinity racing, working through a couple of different sponsor opportunities, waiting for them to get their duck in a row so we can make the announcement but the plan, and goal is to go full-time Xfinity racing for ’24, excited about the opportunity, it’ll be to me its a little less stressed, lot more fun you know.”

While Yeley has not confirmed the team with which he would be shaking his hands, it is speculated that the driver might have a few limited options, the first and foremost being AM Racing. The team had recently signed Hailie Deegan as one of its drivers, and the other seat is yet to be secured. Moreover, it was conjectured that Matt DiBenedetto was a possible choice after his cryptic tweet, but nothing concrete was announced.

The other team where the Yeley could sign is Sam Hunt Racing. It was announced that Corey Heim is set to return part-time for the team and pilot the #26 Toyota Supra. It seems that Yeley might be a potential candidate for the seat in the upcoming season.

Netizens are left speculating on the team for the former USAC champion

Although the teams or drivers have yet to announce anything concrete, NASCAR fandom can hardly contain their speculations. As a result, they jotted down their thoughts on Reddit.

One wrote, “Figured as such, though I did want J.J. Yeley and J.J. Haley on the same team. I’m presuming the team is AM since from what I understand Moffitt isn’t returning and it sounds like DiBenedetto isn’t going there.”

“This makes the Kaz Grala to RWR rumor more plausible considering Yeley was the go-to guy for that team. Guess Ware’s just waiting for sponsorship deals to finalize before they announce their plans for their other car.”
