Retiring from the NASCAR Cup Series after the 2020 season, Jimmie Johnson has returned to the sport for 2023. The co-owner of Legacy Motor Club drives the team’s #84 Camaro ZL1 on a part-time basis. A seven-time NASCAR Cup championship winner, Johnson is also the only driver in NASCAR’s history to bag five consecutive championship titles. Loving called Superman by his fans, Johnson recently made headlines when he drove his former team, Hendrick Motorsports’ Garage 56 entry at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

But all that is in the past and NASCAR’s Superman is again in the spotlight, after a major unveil from Legacy Motor Club.

Driving alongside his team drivers, Noah Gragson and Erik Jones, Johnson’s car sports the No.84 number. This number is the opposite of his famously known former #48 Hendrick Motorsports car. The #48 car won Johnson his famed 7 Cup series championships and Hendrick Motorsports still runs the #48 number on their car to date.

Earlier today, Legacy Motor Club released a video on Instagram and the NASCAR world went gaga over it. The video unveiled a new livery for Jimmie ‘Superman’ Johnson’s #84 Chevy that will debut in the Grant Park 220 at Chicago Street Course. Bold, bright, and blue, the eye-catching paint scheme quickly became a fan favorite. Enthralled fans filled up the comments with praises. Some fans wrote, “Badass!” and “Let’s Go Champ!”

Here are a few comments from the fans.

“YESSSSS LETS GO JIMMIE JAM!”

The NASCAR Superman’s 2023 season as both team owner and part-time driver has been rife with disappointment. With his #42 and #43 drivers trailing behind on NASCAR’s Cup Series standings, Johnson himself is yet to taste success. All his three races as a part-timer have been nothing less than disastrous. At the Daytona 500, the LMC co-owner wrecked out of the race during the first overtime, ranking 31st overall. At COTA, Johnson again succumbed to a wreck during Lap 1, grabbing the 38th position. Johnson then finished 37th at the Coca-Cola 600, as he completed only 115 of the 400 Laps, spinning out twice during the race.

Although at first glance it may seem that Jimmie Johnson’s choice of the number #84 is related to his former #48 car, there is another layer to it, which is is far more intriguing.
