The Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona is well underway, with Chase Elliott’s side of the car on the pole. Meanwhile, Jimmie Johnson started somewhere in the Top-10.

It is worth mentioning that he reunited with Crew Chief Chad Knaus for this race weekend. Recently, he spoke about his reunion with Knaus and a flashback moment involving the two.

Johnson said, “He and I didn’t have a moment, but to hear him on the radio. He usually welcomes the fans and thanks the sponsor and does his thing. As he leaves the Cup car and walks over to our pit box in the NASCAR world.

“Now with one to go, he kind of went through something like that and I smiled. I remembered in all the years of him thanking all the fans and sponsors as he walked to the pit box, so a nice little flashback there.”

How is Jimmie Johnson performing in the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona?

After qualifying in the Top-10, Johnson is enjoying a great race. However, he still has to be wary of all his rivals snapping at his heels. He and his co-drivers now have a tough job of trying to soak in all the pressure.

Meanwhile, teammate Chase Elliott has confessed that he has been struggling. After snatching an early lead, the team went through a few troubles as they pitted for emergency repairs.

In addition to that, Elliott was left kicking himself after he seemingly straddled a curb and potentially damaged the car. Once the race concludes, Jimmie Johnson will train his focus on the 2021 IndyCar season.

The NASCAR veteran is keen to kick off his debut IndyCar season. Meanwhile, Elliott is looking forward to defending his maiden Cup Series title. Both of these are fresh and new challenges for the former Hendrick Motorsports teammates.
