Having a record of winning the NASCAR Cup Series title five consecutive times, he has indeed been one of those names who is almost symbolic of NASCAR. The Hall of Famer recently shared how he is planning for his 2025 appearances on the Raceway. Being the co-owner of Legacy Motor, his presence on the tracks itself is quite a reinforcing experience. Recently, Legacy Motor Club has included two new drivers who have been on the run through the Cup Series, John Hunter Nemechek and Erik Jones. Despite being a veteran, Johnson admits he has a lot to learn from these two.c
Although both these drivers have already been able to build quite a name and expertise for themselves, being on the same team as Jimmie Johnson opens a pool of opportunities. As someone who has a wealth of experience in the field, it is only obvious that he would be mentoring these two fresh talents so that they are also capable of achieving historic feats. However, Johnson was seen being candid when he owned up to how he is not in the Next Gen cars that often. Given that most of his experience comes even before the Next Gen cars made a debut, the two new drivers probably have a better hand at the same.
Johnson said, “I’m not in these cars enough to really give those guys enough input to help them, but from a build standpoint and design of the car, it’s another engineering exercise for us that helps. It does move the needle. But where Eric and John Hunter are, they’re splitting hairs, and I’m asking them more for advice now than anything”. In the Phoenix Raceway, Johnson finished in the 23rd position, Nemechek finished in the 30th position and Jones ended up 22nd.
Jimmie Johnson was also seen sharing insights about how he intends to make appearances in the 2025 season. He envisions taking to the steering, although it might not be very often. The #84 revealed how Carvana, one of his key sponsors for Legacy Motor Club since 2021 has been in words with him for the 2025 season. He said, “Still to be determined. We’re talking with Carvana now. Looks like we’ll have at least a couple of races with them, and we should have that out here pretty soon”. The upcoming offseason will be crucial, providing the team with time to build on the advancements they’ve made and to continue refining their approach to race preparation. As fans await more glimpses of Johnson on the tracks, it is also time for the new drivers to showcase their zeal and bring some new strategies onboard.
