Johnson’s team fielded a young truck racer in the Cup Series playoff race in Bristol. Carson Hocevar drove Legacy Motor Club’s #42 Chevrolet for the third time this year. And it truly worked like a charm for Jimmie Johnson’s rookie season as team owner. Hocevar finished 11th in only his fourth career race start in the NASCAR Cup.
Moreover, he accumulated stage points for his team by ending Stage 2 in a remarkable 5th place. Such a sensational performance among several champion racers was truly a feat to behold. Johnson was the first in line to acknowledge his driver’s astounding performance. The fact that this achievement aligned with the veteran racer’s birthday was the perfect icing on his cake.
