NASCAR has rarely seen teammate pairings that last across decades. Quite fascinatingly, Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin have shared almost 15 years as teammates at Joe Gibbs Racing. With Hamlin and Busch sharing 515 races together as teammates, certainly feels like a massive achievement. After the race at Bristol, the JGR pair would have broken the record previously held by Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon.

However, they aren’t the pairing with the highest number of wins.

Sadly Busch and Hamlin do not hold the highest wins together; that record goes to the pairing of Johnson and Gordon. The Hendrick Motorsport pairing has had a total of 111 wins.

The Joe Gibbs Racing pairing sits at 98 wins. The difference between the two isn’t by much but now that Kyle Busch is headed to RCR next season, it wouldn’t be possible for both JGR drivers to come close to that number.

While Hamlin maintained a congratulatory tone regarding the driver movement news of his long-time teammate, he also added a short but sly dig directed towards Richard Childress Racing. He also thanked Busch for being a “great teammate” through all of his years racing alongside Hamlin.

Hamin commented, “Congratulations to @KyleBusch and @RCRracing.This is a great opportunity for both parties to team up and win races for years to come. Thank you Kyle for being such a great teammate for the last 15 years. Good luck on the next chapter of your career. The timing could not be better.”

The comment about the timing of the announcement was in reference to what RCR had posted after Denny Hamlin announced that Tyler Reddick would be joining his co-owned team, 23XI Racing, from the 2024 season onwards. Richard Childress had been fuming over Reddick’s early announcement and after the Busch signing, it became even more clear that Reddick’s 2023 season could be a turmoil at RCR.
