Every year in late June or early July, the Goodwood House in West Sussex, England, hosts the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The festival bears witness to both modern and historic racing machines that partake in a Hillclimb or a Forest Rally Event. This year’s Goodwood event was slated to be held between July 13 and 16.

Currently underway, the festival witnessed HMS Garage 56’s Camaro ZL1 light up the Hillclimb track with Jenson Button behind the wheel. Starting the event with a powerslide, Button effortlessly steered the #24 Camaro on the rain-drenched track. Finishing the race without much fuss, NASCAR?s showing at the Goodwood Festival of Speed was another massive success.

Post-hillclimb event completion, Jenson Button spoke to media personnel regarding his experience at the Goodwood event. Appreciating the #24 car’s impeccable performance, Button said, “I have to say it’s the most drivable car I’ve ever driven. It’s just such a pleasure to drive; it really is. Apart from it getting really hot at the bottom of the hill, and I was like, okay let’s just go slow at the start. And we’re on wets, it’s great, but nobody else is, so we catch them really quickly.”

When asked what his plans were now that he is a retired F1 driver, Jenson Button dropped a major bombshell, confirming a popular NASCAR rumor that has been doing the rounds. ?There?s one other thing I might be doing this year, I can?t say. And, looking at doing more racing next year, but maybe a full championship?, Button said, confirming the rumors of him joining NASCAR?s Cup Series as a full-time participant.

Now comfortable behind the wheels of a Cup Series car, Button?s NASCAR debut wasn?t exactly a cakewalk.?

In his debut at COTA for the 2023 EchoPark Grand Prix, Jenson Button not only battled the drivers outside his car, but he was also fighting off heat exhaustion inside the greenhouse of his #15 Mustang. Suffering from heat exhaustion, Jensen Button even considered forfeiting his debut race at one point.

Not used to the closed environment and minimal air circulation of the NextGen car, the 2009 Formula 1 World Champion had to resort to taking minute-long breaks and cooling himself down with ice and water. Persevering through the unfavorable heat, Jenson Button went on to finish in the 18th position. He will be making his final 2023 season appearance at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, competing in the Verizon 200 At The Brickyard.
