There is perhaps no greater feeling for a motorsport driver with roots in the United States than competing at the Daytona International Speedway. After all, the track not only stands as a symbol of the rich racing history at Daytona Beach that started in the early 1900s but also one that has birthed many NASCAR legends over the years.
So even after retirement from full-time competition, several drivers can’t help but find themselves enchanted by the two-and-a-half-mile triathlon. And a return to the glorious Truck Series season opener at Daytona might just be what 2024 has in store for one of the sport’s most experienced female racers, Jennifer Jo Cobb.

While the proposition of a season-opening race at the experienced age of 50 might seem challenging even to the most established Cup Series veterans, Jennifer Jo Cobb is certainly up for the task. Nearly a decade ago, Jo Cobb brought in an impressive and historic sixth-place finish at the Daytona International Speedway to achieve the highest finishing position for any female racer in the Truck Series at the time.
This not only showcased her ability to beat the best of the best at Daytona, but it also created an exciting goal for 2024. However, Natalie Decker took that honor away with a fifth-place finish in 2020, making her the highest-finishing female racer in Truck Series history. While Decker is aiming to bring in a solid result for DGM Racing at the Xfinity Series season opener, Jo Cobb is eyeing yet another top-ten Daytona finish in the Truck Series.
Jo Cobb confirmed to Toby Christie that she will be fielding an entry into the Craftsman Truck Series season opener with her team, Jennifer Jo Cobb Racing. The #10 Silverado will aim to lock in with the 36-truck field. Although the details of sponsorship partners and Cobb’s crew chief are yet to be revealed, the Kansas City native is “seriously still trying to figure it out”.

With the finer details still in the works, no major hurdles should arise for Jo Cobb in bringing in eager sponsors and a competent crew chief. After all, not only does she have 232 starts in the Truck Series with a career that spans decades, but her result at the 2011 season opener speaks for itself. Alongside a few appearances in the past few years at Kansas City and Talladega, Cobb aims to kick-start the season at one of the most prestigious circuits in American motorsport.

So can Jennifer Jo Cobb miraculously turn things around and get that record back during this year’s season opener? While it is still a challenging proposition, another last-minute entrant into the Craftsman Truck Series season opener was revealed only a few hours after Jo Cobb’s announcement.

And just like that, we have another surprise addition to the ever-expanding Truck Series field for the season opener at Daytona. But while Jessica Jo Cobb has yet to reveal further details about her entry, Maggio’s arrival seems likely to have a lot more planning behind it. Osteen and Floridian Motorsports have acquired a former superspeedway chassis from Kyle Busch Motorsports, ensuring that Maggio has a solid car beneath him.
