23-year-old second-generation driver Harrison Burton has made a name for himself in the past few years after securing multiple victories in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. His performances saw him get a full-time seat in the No. 21 Ford Mustang with the Wood Brothers Racing in the Cup Series in 2021. While he has not been able to do much in that aspect, with just one top-5 and two top-10 finishes in the past three Cup seasons, he and his fiancé Jenna Petty have certainly become the talk of the NASCAR garage and fans, owing to flashes of news of the couple’s recent engagement.

Who is Harrison Burton?

If you’re wondering if Harrison Burton is related to Jeff Burton, who has 21 Cup wins and 27 Xfinity Series wins under his belt, you would not be wrong. They are father and son and Jeff is probably why Harrison did not face too many issues getting into the sport. Like other racers, he started at a very young age and won several races and awards along the way.

Some of the more prominent ones are the 2017 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East title, the 2017 World Series of Asphalt Super Late Model title, and the 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series Rookie of the Year award. It was the Xfinity Series award that caught the eye of Wood Brothers Racing which hired him as a full-time Cup Series driver. Not to forget, he was partnered with Dex Imaging which also meant that it would bring in funding to the Wood’s garage in addition to their longtime sponsors, Motorcraft and Quick Lane. His Cup Series debut, however, happened with Gaunt Brothers Racing on April 25, 2021, at Talladega Superspeedway in the No. 96 DEX Imaging Toyota Camry where he finished P20.

Latest on Harrison Burton: Just hours back, Harrison Burton secured his maiden and the 100th Cup win for Wood Brothers Racing in the penultimate regular season race at the Daytona International Speedway. With seven cautions that saw nearly half of the racers out of contention, Burton edged two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch in the final lap. The latter, who led the field to overtime after the final restart, had his No. 20 (Christopher Bell) trailing behind Busch who later got crooked and couldn’t give him the necessary push on No. 8’s rear bumper “the way we needed to be.”

Burton couldn’t hold back and said in the post-race interview, “I cried the whole victory lap. Obviously got fired from this job. I wanted to do everything for the Wood Brothers that I could. They’ve given me an amazing opportunity in life. To get them 100 on my way out is amazing.”

Back in July, Wood Brothers announced a five-time winner in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and a current Sunoco Rookie of the Year candidate Josh Berry would drive the No. 21 beginning with the DAYTONA 500 on February 16, 2025.

Although she might have a very popular last name, Harrison Burton’s fiancé Jenna Petty has nothing to do with motorsports. Well, she does now, but that was not one of her foremost interests. That would be dancing. According to her Instagram handle, she is an alumna of High Point University, a member of Dance Productions- The Remix, and the brand ambassador of Jo and Jax (dancewear company).

Petty also used to be a senior member of her university’s dance team and her love for dancing is well portrayed by her Instagram bio that reads “#jp123dancer”. Ever since the news of her and Harrison Burton’s engagement broke, there has been speculation of Jenna being related to the legendary Petty family but that’s not exactly the case.

Contrary to popular speculation, Jenna Petty is not related to that particular Petty family but in a few days, if all goes well, she will become a part of the Burtons’ motorsports family. The couple has always kept their relationship open and in all probability, this news did not come as a shock to Jeff Burton’s. Perhaps that’s something both families have spoken to each other and have always been on board with this decision.

Jenna Petty might not have started her career in the world of NASCAR but perhaps her 7-year relationship with Harrison Burton changed her mind. Currently, she is a part of Motor Racing Outreach. It is a a non-denominational Protestant Church with ties to NASCAR and according to their official website, “It is the mission of Motor Racing Outreach to introduce the racing community to personal faith in Christ, to growth in Christlikeness, and to active involvement in the church through relationships that provide care in times of stress, knowledge of God’s word, and assistance in the development of leadership skills.” 

Is Harrison Burton on the verge of losing his Cup Series seat?

Things have not gone well for Burton in the NASCAR Cup Series at all. He has taken part in 2 full-time seasons with Wood Brothers Racing and both seasons have been pretty disappointing. In 2022, he finished in a lowly P27 spot on the table and the year after that, things got even worse as he finished P31. NASCAR is a very result-driven sport and it doesn’t matter whose son you may be. If you’re not performing, you’re out. Unfortunately for Burton, time is running out.
