Remember the disastrous Hurricane Helene that hit the USA in September 2024? Times were dire but, NASCAR opened its Charlotte Motor Speedway track for evacuees to take shelter in. California, the home to Sonoma Raceway, an iconic NASCAR track, is slowly succumbing to the wildfires. Last year, 1000 acres of land were caught in the clasp of the Point Fire at Sonoma. While NASCAR legends like Danica Patrick and Kenny Wallace are raising legitimate questions to the government about policies during the disaster, Jeff Gordon aims to gather help and support from fans worldwide.

The Vice-Chairman of Hendrick Motorsports and 4-times NASCAR Cup Series champion, Jeff Gordon recently shared a heartfelt message on social media, motivating masses to come forward in support of California wildfire victims.

Jeff Gordon has always been on the frontline of social service. He founded ‘Athletes for Hope’, an organization aimed at facilitating children’s health with support from fellow athletes worldwide. Furthermore, his establishment, ‘The Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation’ has granted millions of dollars to other children’s foundations to eradicate cancer in children. In the video, he urged people to help communities rebuild and thanks people already involved in extending a hand to the needy.

The California Wildfires which started Wednesday, set ablaze 12,000 structures and claimed 11 known lives till now. The situation is now dire at Palisades, and new evacuation orders are being issued. Jeff Gordon was born and raised in Vallejo, California, where the air quality is currently unhealthy for survival. “I was born and raised in California, so it will always be close to my heart. And I know its people are incredibly resilient,” Gordon said, voicing his support for his community and birthplace.

Gordon empathized with the pain experienced by people caught in the wildfires. Families have lost their homes, lives have been lost. First responders are risking their lives. And, so many people are enduring unimaginable hardship,” Gordon said in his post.

He urged people to volunteer or donate to the cause to help communities rejuvenate and rebuild. “Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference in helping rebuild these communities,” he said, promoting mutual growth through help in recovery efforts. After all, the Sonoma Raceway has played a pivotal role in his NASCAR career. Gordon started his winning run in 1998 and 1999 by finishing at pole position at Sonoma and held his lead. He then went on for back-to-back wins, being the only driver to take 3 consecutive wins here. At the end of the day, home is home.

Gordon expressed his gratitude towards people and volunteers working tirelessly for the sake of humanity. “From the brave firefighters on the frontlines to the countless volunteers opening their hearts and their homes to those in need,” he thanked them all.  And the call to help has been answered to an extent. NASCAR driver Garrett Smithley revealed his father was piloting a plain that was putting out the fires. This becomes an even riskier task given that there were winds reaching speeds over 90mph that carried embers right into any vehicle going into areas. With the speeds dying down bit by bit, fans expect to see more people join in the effort to rescue those affected.
