Chase Elliott‘s fans are not the happiest at the moment. With the 75th season of NASCAR unfolding, Chase Elliott is yet to grab a win in the Cup Series. The 20th race of the Series has been wrapped up, but Chase Elliott is yet to make his fans happy. His 12th rank in Monday’s New Hampshire race did not make fans feel better about the victory less drought that he’s been going through. The disappointment is not just with NASCAR’s golden boy, but with Hendrick Motorsports in general, for even Alex Bowman’s performance doesn’t scratch the itch left by Elliott’s performance.

But Jeff Gordon, the Vice-Chairman of HMS has something to say about this. In the latest episode of the podcast NASCAR Live, he opened up about what HMS actually wants from Chase Elliott, and what their goal actually is.

Back when he was an HMS racer, and even now as he is the VC, Jeff Gordon is a HMS man through and through. He has also expressively kept faith in his two drivers – Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman. It was Gordon’s belief that had led fans to keep their hopes up for the Crayon 301. But Elliott failed to deliver a win at the rain-delayed race too. Needless to say, fans are restless and frustrated. But Jeff Gordon is still optimistic as he talks about the bigger picture.

Everything happens for a reason so, These guys are being tested right now. You know, it’s tough for all the Elliott fans, and just know that there’s nothing that’s a bigger priority for us than getting Chase the No. 9 team as well as Alex Bowman’s No. 48 team into the playoffs,” he put forth.

Thus, Jeff Gordon clarifies what their priorities are with respect to Chase Elliott. However, their aim is also not as one-dimensional or short-sighted as just the upcoming playoffs. It is something bigger, and Jeff Gordon candidly shares their plan with fans.

Jeff Gordon puts up the bigger picture for the fans. Playoffs may be the near-sighted goal, but the ultimate goal is the spirit of competitiveness, and the drive to win the Championship itself.

But I think it’s more than just being in the playoffs. It‘s about being competitive where you can go win races and win a Championship. That’s what we’re all about at Hendrick Motorsports.”

“And yes it’s important to us, it’s important to our fans, to our sponsors to be in the playoffs. But we want a lot more than that. That’s what we’re searching for,” concluded the former HMS driver.
