NASCAR is indeed a massive sport in North America, with millions of fans across the US, Canada, and Mexico. However, on the flip side, despite being one of the biggest leagues in motor racing for 75 years, it still remains to be a North American household name rather than a global powerhouse much like its competitors.

But now, with the latest development, fans are quite excited. The reason the NASCAR fraternity is thrilled is that NASCAR Cup Series legend and Hendrick Motorsports Vice Chairman Jeff Gordon made some major revelations about the sport finding new pastures.

While there have been enough debates among the community about NASCAR finding newer venues outside the US, the NASCAR veteran believes the modern race cars are well equipped to perform in global venues.

Jeff Gordon elaborates on the tough spot NASCAR is in

The legendary racer opened up on the popular SiriusXM NASCAR Radio while mentioning the hidden details of the sport like the current race schedules. He also looked to spread his idea of “quality over quantity,” spreading the sport to newer venues abroad.

Reflecting on the massive potential of the sport, he said, There is a tremendous amount of NASCAR fans in Canada and you know other parts of North America um you know Mexico, uh you know you get up into Canada and Alaska there is a ton of fans we just got to have a place to go to put on a proper race and I absolutely think we should be going there now that we’ve done the Coliseum, what’s another type of Coliseum that would allow us to put on some type of an event?”

“Is its is it Wembly over in England?

Gordon also sheds light on the 38-race schedule of NASCAR drivers and how that will create problems for the organization’s effort to venture into newer grounds. Reinstating the importance of quality, he elaborates, I don’t know, but I do think um it with our schedule being 38 races, its so tough to go do anything more than what we’re currently doing, so we got to address that, like to me it’s about quality not quantity.”

“And if there’s a unique opportunity and it makes financial sense for the teams and you know then let’s do it, we’re all in,”

Further, the 51-year-old added the significance of street courses and how they will play a crucial role for the sport in its expansion. Citing the upcoming Chicago street race, he added, “Let’s go and if that’s somewhere in Canada, um I think I think that might be the first start to something like that, is it an oval, is it street course? I don’t know, I think. Let’s see how Chicago goes, right?”

Acknowledging the way the current Next-Gen cars are set up for street courses, Gordon said, Um hopefully, that that goes over well and this car, I don’t think that could happen without this car, with brakes and independent suspension and just, you know the underwing, the way that car operates and works the transmission, it works for a street course, I I think that we can out on a show there, we can do that and now it opens up you know all kinds of different doors to go to different venus not only in the US but you mentioned outside the US.”

He believes that these modern cars are the perfect tool to carve out their distinctive mark on a global scale. With suspension and transmission components designed for road races, Gordon is a firm believer that the Next-Gen platform will take the organization to higher grounds if a future international NASCAR event features these machines on more road courses worldwide.
