Jack Roush's car collection is mind-blowing! Does this cement his status as a NASCAR legend?

The RFK Racing team has been off to a bright run this season. Brad Keselowski, part owner and part driver, thundered back to the victory podium this year in Darlington. Although he underwent a 104-race winless streak since joining RFK, Keselowski climbed back up. His teammate Chris Buescher has also notched impressive 5 top-five finishes. These drivers partly owe their strong runs to the gearhead ambitions of the team co-owner, Jack Roush.

Nurturing a passion for vehicles since his teenage years, Roush possesses decades of invaluable racing experience. His love for high-speed machines is visible under bright lights in his family garage. And one of the world’s most popular car shows paid a visit to check out this sprawling gear space.

Top Gear is a British magazine and TV show, catering to gearheads’ fantasies since 1977. Presented by a team of passionate car lovers, the show caters to a global audience. Recently, this show ventured inside the American motorsports world, hunting for the most breathtaking gear exhibitions. And they found the perfect place – inside Jack Roush’s garage of motor beauties.

Top Gear Magazine’s Deputy Editor, Ollie Kew, took an enlightening tour of the fascinating location. He walked with dewy eyes through aisles showcasing classic Trucks, a replica US Army staff car nicknamed ‘The General’, and enough NASCAR rides to keep the championship trophies coming. The historian of the Roush Automotive Collection, Tyler Wolfe, offered some fascinating stories involving none other than Jack Roush himself.

So when Kew’s eyes fell upon a ’65 Ford, Wolfe recalled its history: “Jack moved to Michigan after graduating from college. He’d actually had an order in for a brand new ’65 Mustang Coupe. This is not that car, but it’s the car that was kind of spec-ed out like the car he had.” This car also carries the name, ‘Icecream car’ due to Jack Roush’s grandpa duties. “He would go and pick the grandkids up from school and take them out for ice cream.”

Then Jack Roush joined the party and launched into a storytelling mood. He recalled driving some classic models with an old friend long before he entered adulthood. “When I was 16 years old, I had a 51 Ford. I was going down the road one day and I came across a friend of mine who had a 48 Chevrolet. It had a 300 cubic inch GMC engine, a truck engine in it. The original engines were 217th, so it was a big improvement over the original engine. “

Currently 82 years old, Jack Roush is still up and about, as we can see his eagerness to receive the Top Gear guys. But this 8-time Cup championship-winning team owner has overcome major hurdles himself. Roush has survived multiple wrecks and not one, but two plane crashes. An experienced pilot himself, Roush proudly flaunts the remains of those wrecks in his Automative exhibition. In his Top Gear interview, he recalled how at 16 years old he conflicted with his friend and his car ended up getting severely damaged. Roush came away unscathed, of course.

But in a 2012 interview, Jack Roush had given a detailed explanation of all his injuries. And even after 12 years, it can offer chills. Roush said back then: “I see fine with my right eye, but I lost the left eye. I’ve recovered completely from the broken back. My eyesight is 20/15 with corrective lenses. I’m back flying again after I lost my medical certification for 12 months because of a bruise on my brain—there was some fear about me having a seizure while I was flying. I have the same pilot’s classification as before. Pilots with monocular vision, it’s not uncommon.”

If this is not the true personification of grit and strength, then what is? Jack Roush’s immense tenacity and gearhead ambition undoubtedly lead his two talented Cup racers.
