“I’m not retiring from racing; I’m just retiring from the Cup Series,” were the words that Tony Stewart had articulated before announcing his retirement back in 2015. And it seems that the driver has remained true to his words even after hanging up his helmet seven years ago.
There is no denying the fact that NASCAR drivers are the most relentless athletes when it comes to proving their talent and prowess. They start early in their careers and strive to attain perfection with each passing day. Nevertheless, after attaining the peak of the sport, these drivers take the opportunity to bow down and bid their adieus from the racing track.
While retirement in the fast-paced world has always meant moving away from the daily hustle and drudgery of professional commitments, Stewart, on the other hand, seems to rewrite the concept of retirement as he revealed his thoughts ahead of the SRX Racing.

The hectic schedule for SHR c0-owner, Tony Stewart seems to be never-ending
In the world of sports, retirement has always been the most painful part of an athlete’s life, as well as that of his fans. And NASCAR is no different, as every year drivers allow the curtains to fall on them. However, only a few make their post-retirement lives worthwhile, and Tony Stewart is a testament to that. And to say the least, it seems that Tony Stewart is busier than ever, even after hanging his helmet in 2016.
He has been working in other formats of racing, managing teams, and also in his marital life. His hectic life was very evident from his interview ahead of SRX Racing. The Hall of Famer revealed, “If this beauty sleep thing was actually real, then I looked into the mirror and it didn’t work at all. Four hours didn’t even scratch the surface.”
To which Marco Andretti added in jest, “We might need your cardboard cutout for that.”
Stewart continued, “I thought about wearing my helmet up here, just so nobody had to look into my face. I got a long week, so we were at Eldora last night, we are here with you guys tonight. I fly back to Columbus, Ohio tonight and I run the Dragster at the regional NHRA race, tomorrow and Saturday.”
“Flying back up at Eldora for the King’s Royal on Saturday night and then when that’s fly out to Denver, Colorado for the last race at Bandimere Speedway in Denver and like Havasu for half a day, go and work stuff and then I gotta fly to Charlotte for a day of work so…” the driver concluded.

Andretti could not resist, but asked, “I thought you were retired, man what’s going on?”
To this, the Stewart-Haas co-owner replied, “I am the dumbest person, you have ever seen when it comes to retirement, I am telling you. Absolute dumbest thing, I must have read the line above or below retirement but I have totally scr*wed retirement up and I am having a blast doing it though.”
Stewart is surely having a ‘blast’ post-retirement as he tries his hand at various forms of racing. Moreover, the Hall of Famer has already earned a spot in NHRA drag racing after following in the footsteps of his wife, Leah Pruett. Stewart also announced the awarding of a million dollars for the first in Sprint Car Racing, hosted at the Eldora Raceway, a track that he owns.

Nonetheless, it is surely invigorating to see that Tony Stewart still has the zeal to run races and is ready to challenge himself and go beyond his comfort zone. While post-retirement athletes often move away from the limelight and lead a life in seclusion, Tony Stewart surely does not fall into that category, as he still has the racing spirit burning in him.
