The Camping World SRX Series’ 4th race of the season was perhaps the most exciting one this year. With none of the previous issues which marred the first three races coming up, the race was a massive success in every sense. Moreover, there were some major changes in their drivers’ list after last week’s ruckus around Paul Tracy.

Reigning Cup Series champion Joey Logano was another star to grace the venue, albeit not as a racer. Present as a commentator at the CBS booth, Logano came by an overly aggressive move by Marco Andretti and his team, and sounded quite impressed by his strategy.

The race saw great additions to the roster, with former Xfinity and Truck Series champion Johnny Benson Jr and former Cup star Kasey Kahne also joining the star-studded list. Defending SRX champion Marco Andretti was in contention for the top place on the grid for the majority of the race, before finishing fourth.

In one of the highlights of the race, Andretti decided to pass the #90 car by pushing from the inside. Watching it from the commentary booth, Joey Logano held this move in high regard as he emphasized the aggressive approach on a track that has always been tough on the tires.

“I love Andretti’s strategy; I’ve never seen someone save tires in such an extreme way,” exclaimed Logano.

Berlin Raceway is known for forcing drivers to focus on tire conservation. Tires wearing out is a big woe on the track; for this very reason, drivers have also been attracted to the challenge it offers. Later, Logano also took notice of the urgency increasing among the competitors as they approached the final lap.

“Everybody’s work throughout the whole race of saving tires or not saving tires is all coming out right now,” said Logano. Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski were the pick of the drivers as they finished first and second respectively. After getting spun out by Busch last week, Keselowski returned with all guns blazing this time around.

Despite Keselowski and Rowdy dominating the race, they also admitted that racing in Berlin can be quite a daunting task. “This place is so tough, so challenging with all the things you have to do here, rolling into the gas and rolling out of the gas, the steering wheel and keeping the tires underneath you,” said Busch.

Kyle grabbed his second win in two weeks on the short track. Unlike Cup cars, SRX cars can be handled with much more ease in traffic. However, the 7/16-mile track is undeniably one of the toughest tracks, as confirmed by Busch.

“Berlin is one of the toughest short tracks we go to. Brad was really good and I wasn’t sure I had anything for him until Castroneves got up there and ran him really hard. Then I saw Brad start to slip his tires and I’m like, okay, he’s right on the edge so I might have something too,” said Busch summarizing his race in a post-race conversation with media correspondents.

Keselowski on the other hand explained that he was unable to conserve his front tires which turned out to be detrimental for him. He also took the win in the first heat race in the #6 and went on to carry forward the same form to the evening.

“I pushed a little too hard and just used up the front end a little too much. That was on me. We had a good race, won a heat race, that was good, drove from the back to second, and that was good, led that the most laps and that was good and just overdrove it a bit and didn’t have enough by the end of the race,” said Keselowski, being critical of himself.

Wore-out tires implied that Keselowski had to race on a lower grip, which made it a bit sloppy for him. But in the end, he managed to overcome the obstacles for another good result this season.
