While the racing gods might have been at odds with Bubba Wallace for his 2024, he was blessed in abundance with the arrival of his first child. After the Cup race in Kansas, the 23XI Racing driver and Amanda announced the arrival of their baby boy named Becks Hayden Wallace.

However, Bubba was not present with his wife at the hospital. Rather, he was behind the wheel of the #23 Toyota Camry at Kansas Speedway. This wasn’t the first time a NASCAR driver had missed the birth of their child. Chris Buescher, despite ditching the Daytona 500 Cup practice this year, couldn’t be with his family. Ryan Preece from SHR found himself in a similar situation last year, where he missed the birth of his daughter.

Knowing that they might run into a similar situation, both Bubba Wallace and Amanda had agreed that he would prioritize racing. But Wallace is making up for missing the special moment, as he’s now focused on spending more time with his son.

Bubba Wallace has been busy with daddy duties since the birth of Becks

The arrival of the first baby is something special for a family. However, Bubba Wallace is anything but an ordinary human being. The couple had been pretty excited about Beck’s arrival and even threw a unique gender reveal party that quickly took over social media. So it was kind of odd to see Bubba Wallace deciding to race rather than be with his wife.

Sharing his take on this decision ahead of the Roval race this Sunday, Wallace said, “I wasn’t there; I missed it as simple as that. We talked about it for months, and we settled on not missing the race; it is what it is. I’ve been there every day for him as the father now; that’s all that matters. I left to hospital at 9 AM, so I talked to her before the race.”

Wallace broke this news to his friend Mamba Smith while he was announcing the drivers for the race. “I just had my baby boy like an hour ago.” Surprised at how casually Wallace broke the news, Smith was dumbstruck and replied with a “Congrats.” The 23XI Racing driver shared this clip on Instagram, and the fans loved the reaction on Smith’s face.

However, after his 17th place finish at Kansas, he quickly flew to his family and announced the arrival of Becks to the NASCAR community on Instagram. “Amanda and I would like to introduce you to Becks Hayden! We were blessed with his presence Sunday 9/29☺️ 9 months of waiting on this little guy, he’s made it all worth it! So excited for this journey!.”

It’s not just a commitment to his family that Wallace is making. Apart from his daddy duties, on the racing side of things, the driver signed a contract extension with 23XI Racing. In doing so, he put all the rumors about his exit from the team to rest.

There was a lot of chatter around Bubba Wallace’s continued future with 23XI Racing after his torrid outing in the 2024 season. On one hand, you had Tyler Reddick in the #45 contending for wins almost every week, while the #23 car struggled to collect enough points. The strategy of banking on points to qualify for the playoffs backfired, and Wallace failed to make the cut, while Reddick won the regular season championship.

It is hard to fathom that despite running a similar setup and access to the same resources, Bubba wasn’t able to deliver the goods. Which led to speculations about his continued run with the team in 2025. But despite the poor show on the racetrack, the higher-ups and the team decided to put their faith in their driver and signed a multi-year extension, especially since Bubba Wallace knows the climate of the team, with the anti-trust lawsuit against NASCAR in full swing. After the announcement he went on to say, “I know my process has been kind of going hand-in-hand with the Charter agreement. It’s frustrating to see where we’re at, because that impacts my life and livelihood, and everything moving forward with my future.

However, there’s still uncertainty surrounding the two drivers and if they will be allowed to race in 2025. 23XI Racing, along with FRM, has sued NASCAR with an anti-trust lawsuit after deciding not to sign the charter deal. Although the team owners are willing to field open cars, it is hard to see them survive economically without the charters. So the fate of the drivers now rests in the hands of the court.
