Earlier in 2021, Chase Elliott got to race against his own father, Bill Elliott, in the Camping World SRX racing series at Nashville. And it turns out, that was Tony Stewart‘s favorite moment of the entire series.

It even reminded him of a wholesome moment from earlier in his career.

In an earlier interview at The Skinny Racing Podcast, Stewart talked about the SRX race at Nashville and how the event was. But he revealed his favorite part of it, which was seeing Chase Elliott face off against his father in Nashville! The father-son battle which resulted in Chase taking the win away from his father was exciting not only for the fans but also for Stewart!

“Probably my favorite part of the Nashville race was watching Chase and Bill Elliott racewith each other. I literally have the best seat in the house, I was right behind both of them while they [were] racing each other. I’m like, ‘this is so cool’,” Tony Stewart continued. “Because, you know, it was cool that NASCAR gave their blessing to let Chase come and run and Hendrick let him come as well. And it was fun. It was something that they got to talk about the next day during the NASCAR broadcast.”

Well, that was the best moment for many people. But what made it better for the three-time Cup Series Champ was the fact that he had done something similar, too.

Seeing Chase Elliott’s fight made Tony Stewart take a trip down memory lane

Beyond just racing against his father, the 2020 Cup Series Champ got to represent NASCAR in another racing series. And that was a very special moment for him. But seeing him out there racing in Nashville reminded Stewart of the time he did something similar, too.

Earlier during his racing career, Tony Stewart competed in the IROC series and represented NASCAR, too. And Chase took him back to when he was doing the same himself.

He said, “And you know, I remember what it was like to represent NASCAR when I ran IROC and how proud I was to represent NASCAR. And I think that’s the way Chase felt when he got an opportunity to run SRX with us and race with his father.”
