Nashville was yet another race in which 23XI Racing’s pit crew let down their own driver, Bubba Wallace. Throughout this season, the #23 driver has faced problems in the pit lane that have led to several poor results.
But not many know that 23XI Racing’s pit crew comes from its co-owner’s team, Joe Gibbs Racing.
Since the team owned by Denny Hamlin is so young and still in its infancy, it has an arrangement with the team that employs Hamlin when it comes to pit crews.

Oh my goodness. Bubba Wallace has had so many decent runs foiled by pit road miscues this season. #NASCAR

This was something that Steve Lauletta, the Team President of 23XI, also opened up on in a recent interview.
“We get so much support from Joe Gibbs Racing, and this was one of the key areas that they really help us on,” Lauletta said. “They’ve had problems on their cars, and there’ve been problems on pit lane with almost every team.”

For Lauletta, the problems in the pit lane is part of the getting used to process with the Next Gen car. But he did admit one thing: the #23 team has been perhaps more unfortunate than the rest.
Bootie Barker apologizes to Bubba Wallace, but Wallace is furious after having another good run ruined.
"Leave me the fuck alone, dude. Don't talk to me the whole fucking race."
Barker says he understands why Wallace is upset, but he'll continue to talk to him.

“It’s part of getting used to this (new Next Gen) car and the changes in it,” he added. “We just have been unfortunately, with one team, the 23, a victim of more challenges than we all would have liked to have.”
23XI Racing has let down Bubba Wallace
In an interview earlier this season, 23XI Racing co-owner, Denny Hamlin admitted that they have let down an “extremely fast” Bubba Wallace with the horror pit road display.
“The results don’t show it, but like I said, as a team, we’re letting him down right now,” Hamlin had said.

When asked what could be done to fix the situation, Hamlin hinted that the issues will be dealt with “internally”. “We gotta work through some issues on pit road certainly,” he emphasized.

“I think we have to figure out how to manage races. And you don’t always have to have ‘Hail Mary’ stops in my opinion, sometimes you gotta run the ball and have a solid stop with no mistakes to keep you in the game,” Hamlin added.
