Carson Hocevar is pulling out all the stops and more, to place himself in the All-Star race on that final fan-voted entry for a million-dollar prize. From playing Dale Jr, Denny Hamlin, and more in playful skits to paying Cup drivers on Cameo to advocate for his entry, many may deem Carson’s campaigning efforts controversial.

But amidst the excitement awaiting Dale Jr’s beloved short track, a wider debate surrounding its faltering package hangs a heavy shadow over Moonshine Country come Sunday. Adding to all the noise, Hocevar decided to put his thoughts out on the horsepower debate, and once again, it may leave many scratching their heads in laughable disbelief.

15,000 Horsepower? Carson Hocevar’s shocking solution

Shifting the gears at high speed to ensure his efforts play out till the end, the #77 driver recently appeared on DJD Reloaded to answer a few questions surrounding his advances. In light of a recent parody where Hocevar ‘took over’ Dale Jr’s seat on the ‘Download’, to argue on the plaguing issue surrounding short tracks in 2024, host Andrew Kurland questioned Hocevar on a ‘hot topic among the voters this season’. “How to potentially fix the short-track package?,” the host asked.

Without any contemplation and in true comedic fashion, Hocevar declared, shocking many, “15,000 horsepower.” While his answer may come out as humor, it’s also further amplified what many drivers have been asking for a long time: More horsepower. From Denny Hamlin sharing how more power will “absolutely” improve the racing product to retired Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick saying, “I still think it’s gotta have more than 1,000 horsepower,” this has been a major point of contention between NASCAR and its racers for quite a while. Perhaps Hocevar is also lending a voice to that cause in his own way. Who knows?

Now, getting back to the conversation between the #77 driver and Kurland, as the latter recollected to probe him further in disbelief, he asked the deserving question: “How do you plan on paying for that?”

To which Carson sarcastically answered, “I mean, it comes out of the OEMs and the team owner’s pocket, so not out of my pocket. So it’s not my problem, per se, right?” Nevertheless, Spire’s first-year, full-time rookie made a contrastingly mature observation on NASCAR’s current financial scenario. “You know, this new charter agreement should be that, should be topic of discussion. Priority One if I had the choice but yeah, we’re trying to get in the All-Star Race not vote president of NASCAR, but this is the stepping stone,” explained Carson Hocevar.

Regardless, in a more serious tone, between battling for a spot in the All-Star race and bridging newer gaps in the spectator-driver spectrum, Hocevar has also been facing concerning situations back home in Portage, Michigan.

One way or another, Hocevar is looking to make a splash in the upcoming All-Star Race, either through fan votes or qualification through the Open on Saturday. But a recent conversation with FOX’s Bob Pockrass about the race and his Cameo campaign took a turn as it was revealed that a tornado earlier this week ripped through his hometown of Portage, Michigan, causing significant damage to their family store. Thankfully, his father, who was inside the store at the time, found shelter and escaped injury.

This event adds another layer to Hocevar’s story as he balances his All-Star aspirations alongside his personal challenges. Nonetheless, his efforts have put him alongside Alex Bowman, Corey LaJoie, Bubba Wallace, and last year’s vote-winner Noah Gragson (in no particular order) for a spot in the All-Star through a fan vote if the exclusive group fails to qualify for the last two spots on Saturday.

Considering Hocevar starts on Sunday, it will be his first-ever appearance in the non-points showcase. Therefore, some extra motivation can surely come in handy for the #77 driver with the weekend approaching fast.
