Ahead of this weekend’s Cup race at the Talladega Superspeedway, Joey Logano appeared on a podcast. The defending Cup Series champion enters this race weekend with a win under his belt. The best part is that the win was at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, which is a superspeedway like Talladega. In other words, he could be a favorite to reach the victory lane again and bag his second win of the season.

Speaking with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Logano said, “I’m looking forward to the speed that we should be able to bring there. I think we learned some things in Atlanta that made our speedway program better as far as the car handling. So I’m excited about seeing if that transfers over to Talladega.

“At that point, you control what you can control. So you head towards the front, race up there, get as many points as you possibly can. And at the end of the race, the cars will play out the way they play out. You hope you’re in the right place at the right time and making the right moves. Have the right person pushing you and staying with you and you try to make all those decisions to set yourself up for that last lap.”

What else did Joey Logano say about his chances?

The Team Penske driver is aware that his path will be rife with obstacles. However, he is confident that he can win the race, owing to the fact that he won in Atlanta. As a result, he is praying that his momentum carries over to this race.

Logano continued, “Got to get to the last lap and then race it out, so definitely a lot different superspeedway than the other two we’ve been to so far. Daytona is its own thing, Atlanta obviously completely different.

“Talladega, I believe it’s its own thing as well. Track’s wider, the ability to push around the track is a little bit easier. Some drivers end up being a little more aggressive when it comes to that standpoint. In Daytona, 3-wide is pretty much all you’ve got. You can go four-wide but it’s pretty much going to end up in a wreck.

“Here, four-wide you can actually do, and it’s not even that sketchy. You have a lot more lanes to defend when it comes to that standpoint. More lanes to pick and more options to move through the field at times. Just a different breed when you go to Talladega,”

Last weekend at Martinsville, he finished second behind Kyle Larson. So he will be aiming to go one better this weekend at Talladega. Before that, he has to qualify to be well within a shout of race victory.
