The 2023 Cup Series season did not go as planned for Kyle Busch. However, the Richard Childress Racing star seems to be getting some of his form back at the end of the campaign. Rowdy started the season with three quickfire wins, but the well has run dry since then. The veteran was knocked out of the playoffs in the round of 12, but he has earned two top-three finishes in a row. Despite the improvement, the RCR star believes that he could have won the race.

Things are coming together a little too late for Kyle Busch. Had he achieved back-to-back top-three finishes in the first two races of the round of 12, maybe he still would have been a playoff driver. But just because he is eliminated does not mean that there is no hunger to win. Rowdy still wants to win a race before the season ends, and his team will be striving towards the same goal as well.

Fans at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway were treated to a home favorite taking the checkered flag in the Xfinity Series when Riley Herbst won the race. They were hoping for the same out of Kyle Busch, but the veteran just fell short. The win was taken by Kyle Larson, who sealed his place in the championship race. Rowdy finished P3 behind Christopher Bell.

In the post-race interview, Kyle Busch acknowledged all the hard work put in by him and his team. He lauded the fact that they had had one of the strongest performances throughout the weekend. That is something to be tremendously proud of, considering the kind of results the 8 have been achieving of late.

“Yeah good day for us for sure you know, back to back top 3s is definitely something to be proud of. Hate it that we’re a little late to the party but we’ve been working hard all year long and this weekend was a really good weekend for us. We unloaded strong, qualified strong, ran top 10 all day,” Kyle Busch said.

However, the thing that the 8 did not do was cross the checkered flag first. Obviously, P3 is a good result, but someone like Kyle Busch barely settles for something less than a win when he has the chance. The former Cup Series champion blamed his weakness on restarts for costing him a potential win.

“Just struggled on restarts, just could not keep my track position all day. I felt like every restart I’d go back two or three and by the time the end of the run came, I was back in those spots again but that’s not net forward, that’s net zero. With as even as everything is, it’s just tough to win a race not going forward all the time,” Rowdy added.

He might not won the race but it was exciting for fans at the track to see their hometown hero fending off and overtaking playoff drivers. Kyle Busch’s performance at Vegas was impressive and that is exactly what an insider predicted ahead of the race.

Kyle Busch might have been out of the playoffs but that did not stop NBC analyst Dan Burns from putting his money on the veteran. Burns said that the RCR star would be the non-playoff driver who impressed this weekend and Rowdy finished highest of all non-playoff drivers.

“I’m going to take the hometown boy, Kyle Bush. I just feel like after what he’s done with RCR this year and they’ve had some things that haven’t gone their way and his determination to drive this car the way it needs to be driven might take him to victory lane this weekend. So for me, a non-playoff driver in the spotlight this weekend is going to be Kyle Bush,” Burns had said.
