Racing in NASCAR can often be classified as tight, highly competitive, and at times aggressive. The recent race at the Circuit of The Americas saw quite a lot of drivers colliding with each other during the race, as they jostled for positions. Several incidents took place between drivers, especially at turn 1. A particular wrecking incident included the likes of Ross Chastain, Alex Bowman, and Daniel Suarez.
However, talking recently about the incident-laced race, Dale Earnhardt Jr presented an argument. Junior attempted to justify why the drivers do what they do during races like the one at COTA. Moreover, the Hall of Famer also made a reference to “getting used up,” which was previously mentioned by Chase Elliott‘s replacement about the race at COTA.

During the latest episode of The Dale Jr. Download podcast, Dale Jr said, “Ross dives really low. He’s still in the right. There’s other cars going with him. Bowman has to go down there. If he does it, he’s going to get used up … So he goes down to block Ross.
“But they’re all now pop-committed into that corner. Bam, bam, bam, bam, run into back at each other and they end up going straight into the cars that are trying to turn the corner.”

“So, they’re all if you don’t do whatever freakin’ necessary, you’re gonna get used up. And whatever necessary means put your car and yourself in bad situations where you’re gonna bang into people and get beat around. It’s destined for failure,” Junior continued.
What did Chase Elliott’s replacement mean by the “used up” comment?

With Elliott still recovering from his injury, Jordan Taylor took up the duties for the # 9 car for the race at COTA. This marked the debut of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship driver in the Cup Series. However, after facing such a different style of racing from what he is used to, Taylor told the press what he felt about racing practices in NASCAR.
Following the race, Taylor had mentioned, “I think if someone uses you up, you use them back and they kind of take every inch they want.”

Despite his unfamiliarity with the NASCAR road course racing aspect, Taylor believes that he would be interested to return for more in NASCAR. Given that Elliott would remain out of a few more races, who knows, maybe Hendrick Motorsports will invite him back for another race. It’s likely that he will come in as a road-course ringer at Sonoma Road Course in June.
