NASCAR playoffs have roared into action. The verdict on Darlington has been delivered, and the clock is ticking with just two races left for the 16 contenders to secure spots within the top 12. Now, a surprising constant has emerged, creating a buzz unlike no other. The focal point of recent discussions centers around the holy trinity of NASCAR’s recent weeks: RFK Racing, Chris Buescher, and Brad Keselowski.

In the midst of this excitement, it’s essential not to forget the real ringmaster behind RFK Racing – Jack Roush. A pre-race presser at Darlington, Buescher provided an inside look into the secrets of RFK’s main man.

When questioned about Roush’s involvement at the shop and his reaction to the recent success, Buescher said, “I can definitely gauge his reaction. He’s surely been in really good spirits. It’s been fun really. This whole year to see Jack around a lot and picking fun at everybody and enjoying what we’ve got going on. It’s refreshing.”

It’s been a hard road for a long time,” Buescher went on to emphasize the positive change in Roush’s presence. He noted that Jack was still frequently present at the track, although not as consistently as a few years ago. Despite that, Jack remained a vital presence at the team’s shop during the week, enabling quick conversations about their progress and areas for improvement.

Buescher underscored Roush’s commitment to excellence, explaining, “He’s not one to get too caught up in only the bright side of things and forget that there’s still work to be done. It is constantly, what do we need to do to make sure that we can keep this going forward and what can we do to make sure that we’re competitors in the playoffs.”

Further, he revealed the significance of having clear direction and ideas in their discussions with Roush. He stated, “It’s hard to ask what we need to be better when we don’t know. We’ve been hunting for that for a long time and now that we feel like we have a direction to go in, it makes those conversations a lot more pleasant.”

A recent article on NASCAR pulled back the curtain on the RFK shop as revealed as a pre-Watkins Glen scene was captured. It involved Roush joining remotely from Michigan while Keselowski, crew chief Matt McCall, and Buescher, gathered at the head of a conference table. Team Director Josh Sell led the discussion; the 17-minute meeting offered a glimpse into the transformed dynamics at RFK Racing.

The meeting was typical—engine specs, weather forecasts, weekend schedules, tires, qualifying orders, and even the peculiar numbering of turns at Watkins Glen. What made it noteworthy was the contrast in the team’s operation then and now. The meeting was characterized not by what was said, but by who said it, where it happened, and why it was said. It was a marked departure from the turbulent environment that greeted Keselowski when he joined the team two years ago.

RFK Racing, under Keselowski’s leadership, has a renewed energy. The philosophy is simple: If you want different results, change the processes that produce them. Keselowski immediately began revamping the team, starting with the disorganized shop. He introduced standardized tools, a common approach, to signify that everyone was part of the same team. “It didn’t speak to a common approach. I wanted every person to come in with the same box, same quality, (to show) ‘We’re all in this together.’ “

RFK Racing is steering toward a future where success on the track is not just a goal but an inevitable outcome. With Brad Keselowski at the helm, his words echo like a mantra: “You don’t control results. You influence the results. Big difference. What do you control? You control your values.”
