Brad Keselowski letting go—Is this the end of an era for NASCAR fans?

You might wonder how a NASCAR Cup Series driver started his own manufacturing company. Leveraging his motorsports experience, Brad Keselowski identified a gap in the market and noticed that additively manufactured components were surpassing traditional parts on the racetrack. This insight led to Keselowski shutting down his Truck team in 2017 and a year later he founded Keselowski Advanced Manufacturing (KAM).

With a vision statement that aimed at becoming the North American leader in advanced manufacturing, providing creative technology and innovative engineering solutions, Keselowski’s company has taken a step in that direction by integrating with ADDMAN Group. Reflecting on the moment, the RFK Racing co-owner shared an emotional message on social media, highlighting his vision and his future with the company.

With 76 wins across NASCAR’s three divisions, Brad Keselowski has had a distinguished career on the track. But it is not the only place where he has made a name for himself. His Keselowski Advanced Manufacturing has grown over the years with a  70,000-square-foot facility in North Carolina. But to move forward and expand their horizons they have decided to merge with the ADDMAN Group, a company offering a diverse range of manufacturing capabilities including metal and polymer 3D printing, precision CNC machining, and domestic injection molding.

With the merger, Keselowski lets go of his role as the sole owner of the brand and will stay on as a commercial advisor. Sharing his views about the situation in an Instagram video, the 40-year-old racing driver said, “Well, there are a lot of emotions that come with announcing a merger. Of course, KAM is my baby. I’ve been here since day one, started it, we have a lot of day one employees. I’m really proud of how we have grown from knowing nothing about 3D metal printing…to being an industry leader.”

Keselowski then mentioned when he founded KAM it was with the vision that one day it would be so big, that he wouldn’t be a part of it. “The merger with ADDMAN is the realization that that day has come… We’re ready to leave our awkward teenage phase and make our way into college. Growth is never easy, in fact, it’s almost intentionally painful. What I would say is that as we look to the future, our idea here is, how do we grow stronger for employees, for customers, and for stewarding this industry.”

The move will mean that ADDMAN will have more of a say in the operations and manufacturing, while Keselowski, used to running things on his own and being in sole in charge of KAM until now, will take a backseat as a commercial advisor to the Board of Directors.

The NASCAR driver also mentioned the merger with ADDMAN was necessary “in order to properly steward an industrial revolution” as you need a “large company with a strong base to achieve that.”

Have an interesting take?

The merger with KAM is set to greatly enhance ADDMAN’s capabilities, bringing together over 50 metal additive machines and a manufacturing space of 300,000 square feet. Keselowski Advanced Manufacturing will also partner with Castheon, a metal additive research and production facility in California. This collaboration will support design and production across both coasts of the U.S.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that with this merger, you’re going to see a bigger and better KAM, you’re going to see a bigger and better ADDMAN, that’s going to push us into a brighter future for days and years to come,” Keselowski added.

Indeed, with this merger, ADDMAN and KAM have become the largest metal additive manufacturing service provider in North America. KAM and ADDMAN both serve the defense and commercial markets and this integration will only strengthen their processes of delivering superior quality and faster delivery times for customers. The ADDMAN CEO also shared his opinion on the two units coming together hoping to deliver a transformative experience.

“We hold immense respect for the legacies of the companies we integrate into our fold. Brad and the exceptional team at KAM have built an impressive, profitable, and sustainable 3D printing enterprise in a remarkably short time.  This is yet another proof point that ADDMAN is dedicated to assembling the industry’s finest under our banner. I look forward to seeing the new era of our combined company unfold,” Joe Calmese said.

Keselowski is used to battling for the top spot and this move is no different. He had been a strong advocate for this partnership and as his Instagram caption mentions, he wants to “play for No. 1 on and off the track.”

Meanwhile, Brad Keselowski will shift focus to the Cup Series’ final regular-season race. Currently seventh in the driver standings, the No. 6 Ford Mustang driver has already secured a playoff spot with a win at Darlington Raceway earlier this year. As the Cook Out Southern 500 returns to South Carolina once again, Keselowski aims to replicate his success and boost his win tally before the playoffs start at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Stakes are at an all-time high as the last race of the regular season is on the horizon at Darlington Raceway. While some drivers are competing for the remaining playoff spots, others are hoping to finish at the top of the driver standings after the race at the ‘Lady in Black’. As for Brad Keselowski, he has something special planned for the track where he broke his 110-race winless streak.

The No. 6 Ford will feature names of military veterans on the side of the car, along with a green and white paint scheme with the car number featured in orange. Writing on X, Brad Keselowski said, “I’m deeply honored to have 268 military heroes ride along my Solomon Plumbing Tribute to Veterans Ford in Darlington this weekend. It’s a privilege to represent these brave individuals and I look forward to this program every year. Thank you to everyone who supports the @BKCFF”

Having already won at the Goodyear 400 earlier this year on the track, the Cook Out Southern 500 is Keselowski’s final chance to earn significant points before the playoffs are underway. Getting a result at Darlington, a track he’s familiar with, can make all the difference in how well he fares in the postseason, which makes getting a victory even more crucial.

Could the RFK Racing driver manage to do a clean sweep at Darlington Raceway? That remains to be seen, but off the track he is already making significant strides this year.
