The Darlington weekend always ignites conversations and questions around the possible return of veterans. This time around, there was some chatter about Kurt Busch’s possible return to the tracks. Well, it seems Kurt Busch holds the answer to the question.

Kurt Busch announces a possible comeback in the Cup Series

An avid NASCAR fan, who has been a follower of the sport for long, knows the significance of races at Darlington Speedway. The Darlington track is considered among the toughest tracks, if not the toughest track to master in the Cup Series calendar. The significance was even more this year, with NASCAR celebrating its 75th anniversary.

Like always, the Goodyear 400 stood up to the expectations of the spectators. The throwback liveries celebrated veteran drivers and their commendable records. The celebration also included the recognition of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers, which included the 2004 Cup Series champion, Kurt Busch.

But this was not the primary news about him that made the headlines. Apparently, a potential comeback from the former 23XI Racing driver is on the cards. An interview released by AP News reinforces this fact.

It seems that the 2017 Daytona winner is returning to the tracks after his rehabilitation. He said in the interview, “I’m feeling much better. The improvements that I’ve made have been tremendous.”

While commenting upon his injury, Busch exclaimed, “The toughest part is my body’s fatigue, going through physical therapy. Having a day on, day off, things in my body are much more sensitive.”

Even while undergoing treatment for his concussion, the driver did not shy away from training himself. He confessed that he had been practicing on the simulator and also drove a speedboat at a sponsored event.

The former 23XI Racing driver also added, “I’m pushing. It’s all little things that keep adding up.” In Darlington, his fellow driver Ricky Cavern, who had finished 0.002 seconds ahead of Busch in Darington back in 2003, accompanied him.

Kurt Busch had been sidelined from competing in races after suffering a concussion during the qualifying in Pocono last year. His Toyota had spun on Turn 3 before hitting the outside wall with the right end.

Although the driver had the ability to come out of the car and visit the infield care center on his own accord, the doctors did not give clearance to the driver to race at the Pocono Raceway. A statement released by NASCAR read, “Following the evaluation, Kurt Busch has not been cleared to race in today’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Pocono Raceway.”
