When FloRacing acquired the rights to streaming Dale Earnhardt Jr’s zMax CARS Tour in 2023, little did the NASCAR community know that they were getting into an action-packed season! With 19 race weekends split between the Late Model Stock Car and Pro Late Model divisions, the streaming platform provided entertainment at every turn, no matter where you were at the time of the action. Fast forward to the end of 2023, and the impression FloRacing’s services have left on Dale Earnhardt Jr and Co. is beyond what they had expected!

Not only has the platform converted grassroots motorsport stories into multi-million dollar franchises, but it has also made the sport more accessible to a wider audience. However, there is a major viewership problem that Earnhardt Jr feels needs to be addressed.

Speaking on the Money Lap podcast, Dale Earnhardt Jr explained his long-term plans for the CARS Tour and what he feels is the best plan to increase viewerships. The Pied Piper of Daytona revealed the reason why he loves working with FloRacing on broadcasting his beloved series. One dilemma plagued Earnhardt Jr, “we did not want the CARS Tour to be a new expense like if you’re a subscriber on Flo already, we don’t want you to have to spend another 20 bucks to get the CARS Tour access we wanted.”

He reflected on his priority whilst selecting a suitable streaming partner. Junior felt that subscribers of the platform shouldn’t have to pay additional costs over the subscription fee just to watch the CARS Tour Series, which would inevitably reduce viewership in the long term. Why, you may ask? Earnhardt Jr shared, “It’s a turn-off for me when I’m a subscriber to a streaming service and then there’s an event that I have to then pay additional money for.”

He added, “I understand that things cost money, I mean, you guys, the shows we do cost money to make, and having good quality editing and production is important, and I know those things cost money. But I just put it on the front end of the subscription, I’ll buy it.”

The solution to this problem? Earnhardt Junior felt a complete one-time subscription cost which grants access to everything as a lump sum would make more fans from the community consider giving the CARS Tour a shot. He concluded, “But I feel like with Flo they have racing but everything else, like everything else like I had no clue how much they have on their platform outside of motorsport.”

Earlier, Earnhardt Jr had also cleared the air once and for all by claiming that the CARS Tour was only a subscription-based model instead of a pay-per-view system. It’s safe to say that Junior is working diligently alongside new owners Kevin Harvick, Justin Marks, and Jeff Burton to make the CARS Tour a force to be reckoned with on the streaming statistics charts.

After the budding racing series revealed its contract extension with FloRacing for streaming rights heading into 2024, reflecting on their success so far, Junior shared in a NASCAR Press Release, “As someone involved in the series ownership group, it’s never enough. We’re ambitious, and the value of the series is still unrealized. We’ve got a lot of potential with good, quality racing and a lot of great storylines. I’m pretty bullish, but there are not enough days in the year to accomplish all your tasks.”

One of NASCAR’s all-time greats, Junior felt that he had finally found his next calling in the CARS Tour, and the organizing process kept him up on the daily, bustling with excitement. For the 49-year-old, this rejuvenated feeling of competition comes as a blessing. He also reflected on the shift in psyche that being a series boss has created compared to his usual team-racing spirit. “I used to go the track and everything was about me, but [the CARS Tour] has really opened up my perspective to seeing the challenges of a series owner, the promoters, and team owners that are trying to make a living doing this.”
