Jumping over to the #77 Spire Motorsports Chevy for the 2023 season, Richard Childress’ younger grandson, Ty Dillon, hoped his Cup Series career would finally get the jolt it needed to surge ahead. Driving the #42 Chevy for Petty GMS Motorsports last season, Ty Dillon was at 29th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings. But this season hasn’t been fruitful either for the #77 driver.
Currently ranked in the 32nd spot with 171 points on the leaderboards, Ty Dillon’s 2023 Cup season has been nothing short of a disappointment for the team. With Ty Dillon failing to live up to expectations, Spire Motorsports’ owner, Jeff Dickerson, issued an ultimatum to the No. 77 Chevrolet Camaro driver.

Ecstatic to commence his 2023 season behind the wheel of Spire Motorsports’ #77 Chevy, Ty Dillon’s first run at the Daytona 500 was cut short after his car developed engine issues. Having run just 26 of the slated 200 laps of the Daytona 500, Dillon bowed out of the race, ranking 40th. Things didn’t get easier for the #77 driver, as he constantly found himself at the back of the pack. Ty Dillon’s best finish of this season came at Talladega, where he ranked 14th in the GEICO 500 Cup race.
Displeased with the #77 team’s performance, Spire Motorsports owner Jeff Dickerson was recently interviewed by Frontstretch’s Dalton Hopkins. During the course of the interview, Dickerson said, “I guess with that 77 group, you know, I wish I’d just get going, you know what I’m saying, and make these decisions a little bit um more straight forward. Because it’s like we love what Ty brings to this team.”
The Spire Motorsports Boss then put out an ultimatum for Richard Childress’ younger grandson, demanding he and his #77 team churn out better results. “I don’t think that the results, you know, look, result’s business, right? But it’s like, I don’t think the results are indicative of like that group, and what they’re capable of, and they just haven’t had that like a result to kind of like give them some positive reinforcement. But I hope they start this, you know tonight, and get on a roll, because we’d love to keep that whole thing together”, Jeff Dickerson added.
Struggling to find success this season, Ty Dillon’s professional racing career hasn’t been remarkable either.
