Just when you thought it could not have been worse for the most coveted team in NASCAR, they suffered from another setback. The team has surely been preoccupied with the chart-topping talk about Chase Elliott‘s chances of making it to the playoffs. And on Monday, the race at Michigan International Speedway proved to be detrimental for Rick Hendrick as three of his four drivers failed to finish the race.

The Hendrick Motorsports driver blames himself for the crash

With Chase Elliott and William Byron, both getting DNFs, Alex Bowman and Kyle Larson were the only hope for Hendrick Motorsports. But that didn’t last long as the #48 driver found himself in the wall. During the final stage, all the cars were running their best races for a position. And so was Bowman. However, Austin Cindric did not realize that he was running three-wide, and not before long, he rammed into Michael McDowell, who got into Todd Gilliland, hurling Bowman into the guard wall.

Bowman’s position is not very different from that of Chase Elliott, as it is a must-win situation for both. And with just 3 races remaining till the round of 16, the competition is as fierce as it can be.

During the post-race interview, fans saw the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 pilot criticizing himself for the crash. Although he felt like he needed to watch the replay, he restrained from pointing fingers at anyone.

He admitted that it was due to his attempt to overtake Gilliland, that he steered towards the left, spun out, and hit the wall.

He said, “I’m guessing I just turned myself trying to get left a little bit, drove across somebody’s nose and I kinda saved it…bad direction…tires spun out… So, bummer… just part of restart where we were and trying to avoid the crash in front of me and crashed myself.”

While we can put in our best efforts, luck is not always on our side. At times like these, there is no option but to admit defeat for the time being, buckle up, and strive to do better.

Bowman reflected on how the 2023 season has been for him so far. He definitely did not look happy when he said, “2023 has really sucked.” However, he did not lose hope and looked forward to the two road courses and one Superspeedway, hoping to salvage the situation.
