Crashes and spins are pretty common in motorsports. This is especially true for the close-quarter racing in NASCAR. At the Pocono 400 last week, Joey Logano was on the receiving end of such a crash and the 33-year-old was absolutely livid with the safety crew afterwards. Logano asked to be towed as he could not continue on four flat tires, but the NASCAR safety crew proceeded to push him under caution.

This further infuriated Logano who unleashed a barrage of expletives directed towards the safety crew. A week after the incident, the #22 driver laughed it off, stating that it was a moment that would live forever.

What could have caused even more frustration for Joey Logano was simply that he had a good chance of winning the Pocono race. His race pace was good, and he was victorious in stage 1. With one win to his name in the regular season, Logano has already sealed his place in the playoffs. However, another win would mean five additional playoff points, which go a long way in deciding the championship.

Joey Logano laughs it off but implores fans to understand his frustration

When asked whether he was surprised about how much the in-car camera picked up, Joey Logano chuckled.
He said,
“It really took off, didn’t it? You know, here’s the thing, I think everybody at some point in their life, if you’re sitting traffic jam has probably said the same exact thing to the car in front of them but no one was recording.”

“I didn’t hit the button, I thought I was doing a good job at not hitting the talk button but turns out there’s other cameras that get stuff so yeah.”

“It’ll live forever, won’t it? It’s gonna live forever,” he said, laughing.

While the 33-year-old acknowledged that he should not have used the language that he did, he explained the frustrating situation that led him to that point.

“Well, I wasn’t exactly just calling them that so it was just, frustrated and I don’t think anyone actually heard me which makes it a little better. Well, I’m sure they have now, but at the moment, no.”

“But yeah, probably didn’t use the correct choice of words but you gotta understand the situation, right? A little bit, right? I was just saying, it’s the fourth time that’s happened to me in the last year and a half so you’re obviously frustrated from that,” he added.

Joey Logano’s reaction at Pocono caught the attention of senior NASCAR officials, including senior vice president Elton Sawyer.

In an interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Sawyer said, Towing them all the way around again, 2 miles, was not ideal. But that’s really what we had to do in that circumstance. Towing them or pushing them is not ideal but it is what we have today, and as far as putting tires and a jack, an electric impact in the back of a chase vehicle, I’m not gonna say that’s not on the table that’s pretty far down the priority list.”

Ultimately, the damage on #22 was too substantial to carry on. Logano suffered a rather frustrating DNF in Pocono but made a fine comeback in Richmond a week later where he finished P4. Given his form, how far can the 33-year-old go in this season’s championship? Let us know your thoughts.
