Even today, When the name “Dale Earnhardt” is mentioned, vivid images of ‘The Intimidator’ crossing the finish line in his iconic number 3 car come to mind. The car is a symbol of Dale Earnhardt’s legacy, and rightfully so. It’s no small feat to win seven championships and over 50 races with the same car. Not just his team, but Dale Sr.’s car holds a special place in the hearts of his fans as well. So, what do you think Kyle Busch exactly said to land up in controversy?
In a poignant gesture, Richard Childress retired Dale Earnhardt’s No. 3 car after his tragic death in 2001. However, later in 2014, Richard Childress made the decision to bring the car back into the field for his grandson, Austin Dillon. The reasons behind this revival may vary, but it could be attributed to a desire to honor Dale Earnhardt’s memory and carry on his legacy within the sport.

Kyle Busch made Dale Earnhardt’s fans furious
Dale Earnhardt’s son faced a challenge with number selection when he switched to Hendrick Motorsports in 2007. Previously, Dale Jr. had been driving the number 8 car for his father’s team DEI. However, he was unable to retain that number as it remained with that team.
So Dale Jr. decided to get number 28 for his car but the same number Dale Jarrett had driven for Robert Yates Racing. To secure this number, Mr. H approached Robert Yates and requested his permission. Unfortunately, Yates had to decline the request as Texeco, their team sponsor, considered the number 28 to be their cherished legacy number.
However, the #3 car is synonymous with Dale Earnhardt, and it is a reminder of his legacy. Unfortunately, this decision was met with opposition from passionate Dale Earnhardt fans who strongly associate the number 3 with his iconic legacy. A recent statement by Kyle Busch may have further fueled the controversy, although Kyle does raise a valid point.
Kyle said to Fox Sports reporter Bob Pockrass, “The conversations related to him and his grandfather’s number — obviously, yes, it was Dale’s number, but it was Richard’s first — I can kind of see all of that and how that’s gone on”

Kyle Busch gives credit to the culture at the RCR campus, “The culture, obviously. They have a strong racing culture. They’ve got a strong racer’s racer demeanor. And I really enjoy that. I like that a lot about the place.” Kyle Busch said on Fox Sports.
He continued, “I wouldn’t say their engineering background or their engineering department is as in-depth as some other teams that I’ve been with before, but they get the job done. They build nice, clean stuff. They know what they’re doing — nutting and bolting is half the project, knowing where you’ve got to put the nuts and bolts is about the other half of the project, which is engineering. But I feel like we’ve had a fair shake at it so far. And we’re going to continue to work on it and make it better yet. “
