The past week witnessed history being created on the tracks of Dirt Racing. What many had considered as overtly ambitious held no grounds with its whopping prize money. It assuredly stood up to the expectations of the fans as the sprint race car drivers fought tooth and nail only to turn a million richer, by the end of the race.
A million dollars purse has always been restricted to the elite formats of NASCAR and has never been synonymous with the world of sprint car racing. However, to juxtapose, the improbable thing that occurred on the tracks of Eldora as the winner of the race pocketed a million dollars, it seems that the race fell short of the basic essence that Kyle Larson exclaimed in his interview with FloRacing.

Kyle Larson heaved his displeasure toward the fans
Apart from dominating the asphalt tracks and notching victories in NASCAR, the Hendrick Motorsports speedster is a common face in the tracks of dirt racing. The 2x Chili Bowl winner has also achieved two consecutive wins at Brad Doty and created history as the only driver to repeat the feat twice in 34 years of the event.
While the Brad Doty race garnered adulation from the fans as they cheered for their favorite drivers, on the other hand, the Eldora Million seemed to lack the excitement among the fans, as Kyle Larson asserted the facts in an interview with FloRacing.
Larson expressed, “I don’t know it was weird you know, I am curious about what Brad will say as well. I was trying to feel the energy and I just never really felt much energy through the crowd, like before the race. I thought at least the main event, it would be rowdy and loud and you could hear the crowd, but man it was just like silent so it was just weird.”

“I don’t know if it’s because the fans also felt the pressure of what the drivers are about to go through, race for million bucks or what, but it didn’t feel like a Saturday night, King’s Royal Crowd. Even if the crowd was a similar size, which I am sure was a little bit smaller on a Thursday night, but it was still packed. I just didn’t really like the energy that much before the feature,” Larson asserted.

Tony Stewart expressed the uniqueness of the sprint race at Eldora to earn a million
It was Logan Schuchart who turned out to be a million richer, as he led all the 50 laps of the race including the qualifiers. This led his team Shark Racing to land additional sponsorship deals. The victory was surely hard-earned by Schuchart, the exact way that Tony Stewart wanted.

Tony Stewart was one of the contributors to the million dollars that the victor earned. The owner of the Eldora Speedway had expressed his exhilaration regarding the paying of such a lump sum amount in the world of sprint racing. He had expressed in a media conference, “The biggest thing I’m proud of is we are going to make history. To have a sprint car driver win over a million dollars is something that has never been done.”
The former Cup Series driver also asserted the unique system that was charted out for the drivers in order to notch their victories. He stated, “We wanted to do something a little bit different and the thing I’m really passionate about and have strong feelings about. Whoever is going to win a million dollars needs to earn it. It shouldn’t be qualify quick time and start on the pole for the main event and not have to race anybody. That’s what’s unique about our format,” Stewart concluded.

This effort system surely proved the calibers of the sprint drivers. While Kyle Larson failed to notch a victory, he finished within the top 5 while his brother-in-law Brad Sweet earned a runner-up finish. Nevertheless, these initiatives often act as a catalyst and pull dirt racing to mainstream popularity and garner more audience.
