After 15 years, 528 NASCAR Cup Series races, and 56 wins, Kyle Busch parted ways with Joe Gibbs Racing last year. While it was a painful breakup, there was always hope of seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Luckily for Busch, it came very early with his new team, Richard Childress Racing. The win at Auto Club 400 was just the start he needed.
In his just second race with RCR, the two-time Cup Series winner rolled on to the victory lane. The triumph saw Busch break multiple records, including one with his elder brother and former Stewart-Haas Racing driver Kurt Busch. It was indeed a memorable day for the Busch family and it was only understandable why Kyle Busch felt nostalgic.

The win at the Auto Club Speedway this year saw Busch surpass the NASCAR legend Richard Petty by registering a win for the 19 consecutive season. To add, it was his 61 race win in the Cup Series. Also, with 95 wins between them, Kyle and Kurt Busch become the winningest brother duo in NASCAR history.
Speaking on the Motor Racing Network’s NASCAR Live podcast, Kyle Busch discussed how the Fontana win reminded him of his first-ever Cup Series win in 2005 in California. He couldn’t help but notice the similarity in both wins, especially with Kurt getting emotional.

Busch, while talking about his elder brother being present there at Fontana, said, “Yeah, yeah exactly. It was a little bit of reminiscent of that a little bit you know when I got my first win out there in California where the crew guys kinda came out, came to the front stretch and you know we all did some high fives, some chest bumps and whatever.”
“And you know I was able to carry the car over to victory lane. So just a special day all around.”
The 37-year-old even added how Kurt’s presence in the victory late this past Sunday made things even more special.
