In NASCAR, emotions often run wild, and adrenaline fuels intense competition. However, the man who visited the victory lane at Richmond, RFK Racing’s Chris Buescher, stands out as an example of calmness and modesty. Despite his significant achievements, including the 2015 Xfinity Championship and multiple wins in the Cup Series, Buescher has managed to maintain a low-profile persona.

However, his recent victory at Richmond Raceway showcased his prowess and composure on the track. Kim Coon, who was covering the No. 17 Ford Mustang driver in her pit sections at the D-shaped oval, praised him for his remarkable performance. Coon spoke her mind about the daunting task of coming from 26th on the grid to win the race. For her, it was just exceptional to watch.

Chris Buescher’s journey in NASCAR has been a blend of success and relative obscurity. Despite his accomplishments, he remains a down-to-earth Texan, preferring to let his performance on the track speak for itself. Kim Coon, co-host of the NASCAR on NBC podcast, who had the opportunity to hear his radio messages during the race at Richmond, remarked on his composed demeanor. Buescher showcased remarkable composure as he weaved his way from 26th on the grid to victory. A feat that demanded exceptional focus.

During the latest episode of NASCAR on NBC, Nate Ryan asked Kim about her take on Chris as she was listening to him for most of the race. “What’s he like to listen to during the course of a radio? What was it like to hear him during the course of this win? I mean, could you tell because he started, I think 26th?”

“Somewhere deep in the field,” Kim responded. It was a herculean task by him, but he did have a great car to get to the front of the field, knowing how hard it is to pass at Richmond. Obviously, strategy came into play, but he is pretty even-keeled on the radio.”

“Over the course of my time covering the sport, you don’t ever get the hot temper, hot-headedness from him,” Kim continued. “That’s not to say he doesn’t have passion, he doesn’t have drive, he doesn’t get riled up. But he seems to maintain, compared to other drivers, a good sense of calm on the radio.”

She passed on the same compliments to Chris’ crew Chief Scott as well. “Same with his crew chief. I mean, Scott Graves is a very calm personality when it comes to the radio. Although once they took the checkered flag, it was very much like they were excited. You could tell on the radio.”

Buescher’s confidence in his team’s abilities and the strategic decisions made on the track were pivotal to securing the victory. When asked if he could tell the fans what it took to get to victory lane, Buescher said; “Probably not. I mean, so much has happened in the 15 years I’ve been there. But the last two years, last 18 months, just to see the turnaround.

New car kind of being a good reset for us, to be able to be competing for wins. A lot of different size racetracks, a couple of checkered flags now, some great pit strategy there, great pit stops. It’s every department working hard to make this happen and get us this checkered flag”, the No. 17 Ford Mustang driver added further.
